daz131 Posted August 20, 2006 Report Posted August 20, 2006 hi all, hope some-one can help.... have had my galaxy for 5 months it is an r reg 2.8 cdv6 auto went out in it yesterday and noticed when pulling away the revs were going sky high but no great speed when i first got it i was able to screech away....i know this shouldnt be done in an auto but i had just changed from a manual car and wanted to use it with the same acceleration pull. two straight forward questions a does an auto have a clutch if so could it be the clutch slippingb if its not that could it be the bands in the gearbox selector and a cheeky third question can anyone tell me what either will cost to repair thanks in advance Darren Quote
Guest 3.5bullet Posted August 20, 2006 Report Posted August 20, 2006 first off have you checked the fluid levels? there are several post on how to do this ;) if the level is low then it will cause a few problems and lead to the early demise of the box! not a bad thing really! I hate slush boxes :P then find a freindly independant garage and get the codes read? this will help narrow down the cause of the problemas for the cost of repairs to the box? depends whats wrong and what needs doing/replacing? but be prepared to sell a kidney or your first born :D Quote
daz131 Posted August 21, 2006 Author Report Posted August 21, 2006 sorry for sounding dumb but in the engine bay of the v6 there is little space and the only filler points i can find are the coolant, power steering fluid and washer bottle can you help me find it so i can check it ta Quote
greg_68 Posted August 21, 2006 Report Posted August 21, 2006 Remove the undertray. Go for a run in the car say 5 miles to get the oil up to around the right temp. Get under the car. Towards the back of the gearbox sump there is a plug (6mm allen I think) Remove this. Still underneath on the front face of the gearbox you will see a "ledge" with a plastic filler plug in (about 2 inches high) Remove this plastic plug by pulling it up. Fill gearbox with oil until it drips out of the sump/level plug. Quote
daz131 Posted August 21, 2006 Author Report Posted August 21, 2006 it doesnt sound like its grinding or running dry but when you pull away it takes a few seconds to decide to move i know the auto is pretty slow but i live near a reasonalby steep hill when i pull onto it the revvs goto 3500 and it sounds laboured it then decides to pull away but only creeps away the only way to describe is its like sitting on a bus and when it pulls away from the lights the engine really revvs before you feel the thing move, i am new to autos but it feels like the clutch is slipping on a manual once its going it isnt to bad it is literally when pulling away, the kickdown is pretty useless at low speed i tried the kick down and then in drive chucking it into "3" (i know you shouldnt do that but there was more of a kick chucking it into a lower gear than than the kickdown seems to be able to manage. please can you advise me on what to check for, there are no leaks and other than this the motor is lovely. have noticed it judders a bit at 30mph when i give it a little more gas it clears up it just dont like third gear very much @1500-2000rpm....from other posts the gearbox is pretty indestructable so could it be wiring or sensor problem cheers daz Quote
