Ok I take it you a pre 98 Mk1 with the CL ECU under the passenger seat? if so make sure the unit is dry? if not dry it out and remove the pcb from the casing and check it for signs of corrosion? if there is any clean it off with a good pcb cleaning fluid and a soft brass wire brush! if the area is wet? trace the source of the water ingress? either blocked scuttle drains or a leak in the rear washer pipe wich are the most common causes!

if thats not the cause of the problem check the condition of the door looms and the loom plugs in the A+B post area for signs of water ingress? or broken and shorting out wires! another common cause of CL problems!

all these topics are covered on the forum! hit the search engine or the faq and have fun reading through all the ever increasing repeated questions asked by newbies :P

scuttle drain..... they clog up, water builds up and then floods through the air intake for the heater! especially if you switch the fans on to aid demisting! which sucks the water in! this inturn flows through the heater unit and out of the passenger footwell vent and behind the carpet, then it flows to the lowest point.....the under floor storage bin and bathes the CL ECU or the rear washer pipe leaks and the fluid again finds it's way to the lowest point............ you get the idea? :P

A post the part the front door hinges attatch to, the B post the part the rear door hinges attatch to
