wood73 Posted August 18, 2006 Report Posted August 18, 2006 please helpwhen statring from cold the motor wont idle, when you hold the throttle slightly open it pops through the airbox and suffers from lack of power wehn moving.after less then a mile this clears and it runs perfect and idles fine.does this sound like the maf or a temp sensor, if a temp sensor where do i find it?thanks in advance. p.s.will vag.com diagnose the fault? sepulchrave Posted August 20, 2006 Report Posted August 20, 2006 It's unlikely to be caused by the MAF although since yours is a '96 car the MAF is prolly kernackered, the temp. senders are on the thermostat housing near the coil pack, there are three; they are blue, yellow and brown. It's also likely that one or more of your HT leads are suspect, invest in a VAG-COM lead and read the cars memory to determine the exact fault, and replace the plugs and leads. Quote
Vanbursta Posted August 20, 2006 Report Posted August 20, 2006 Try replacing the yellow sender on the thermostat, this one tells the ECU what temp the engine is at and if faulty will over / under fuel the engine (which would cause the popping you describe). Quote
wood73 Posted August 21, 2006 Author Report Posted August 21, 2006 !!!update!!! read the codes today, the only recurring code was maf low signal, so i guess thats the problem. Quote
sepulchrave Posted August 21, 2006 Report Posted August 21, 2006 ...Yes, but... HT problems will not be picked up by the fault reader unless the coil pack itself is failing (very unlikely), by all means replace the MAF since they're only Quote
