Gteuk Posted August 19, 2006 Report Posted August 19, 2006 As if by magic Glen appears with his magical wand :P
Dave-G Posted August 20, 2006 Report Posted August 20, 2006 Is that a report tab I see down there? :P
mumof4 Posted August 20, 2006 Author Report Posted August 20, 2006 It is indeed.....no playing with it!! :P :16:
soptom Posted August 20, 2006 Report Posted August 20, 2006 The ONE thing that bugs me is the deviation off topic in the tech section. Sometimes people are desperate for information about something that can mean the difference between forking out hundreds of pounds or finding a relatively simple fix yourself. It is a pain when you log on to find 5 or 6 replies to a question only to discover all are "jokey conversation" because someone went off topic. This should be clamped down a bit.For instance, just why is the "foreign object in car" thread still active in the technical section? This would have been moved to a more appropriate section or deleted in most of the other forums I visit. This is just a personal bugbear of mine.As for an "18s only" section, surely people have better things to do than visit an adult section of a car site?
Guest neil_wiles Posted August 20, 2006 Report Posted August 20, 2006 Soptom You are so right and I cant agree more. I will try to make sure the tech bit stays tech and I am sure Mumof4 will do the same Thanks for the input My vote is NO to an 18+ section there is enough on the www already.
NikpV Posted August 20, 2006 Report Posted August 20, 2006 agree with Soptom - plenty of other sections - as for 18+ section why not just keep it clean ;)
steve67car Posted August 20, 2006 Report Posted August 20, 2006 if you three read the posts and edit when nes the put them in the right slots cause it may only be me but i pisses me off after all how can we help the muppets if they can not post in the right listings also why monitor our posts for foul /swearing its a bloody car forum there for need to be over 17 to drive if under that go a way and come back when older or live with the odd swear word ;) :P :D ;) :P :D :angry2: :angry2: :angry2: :angry2: :angry2:
Guest neil_wiles Posted August 20, 2006 Report Posted August 20, 2006 OK guys its getting out of hand we have had enough examples. I have editted the posts and feel we can either constructively criticise the mod process or request changes but please can we keep it on a civil level and refrain from posting even **** versions of swearing it isnt nec even in this discussion, we all know the words we are discussing.
steve67car Posted August 20, 2006 Report Posted August 20, 2006 see you 3 acted like god again yes i have just been edited i have the right to reply to a dig at me ;) :D :Psorry not personal at you 3 good work but i did vote no as i dont think you are required as it has caused a lot of arguements since you were enpowered
Guest HairyPlateEater Posted August 20, 2006 Report Posted August 20, 2006 At the end of the day, it's in the acceptable usage policy that foul language won't be accepted and I think we should respect that (3. Bad language or threatening behaviour is not acceptable. Messages containing any language likely to offend other readers will be deleted.) I think its far better to get on with fellow members by not using foul language than to possibly upset them by using it. I personally don't mind the odd swear word, but for the sake of peace love and harmony, I refrain on here.
mumof4 Posted August 21, 2006 Author Report Posted August 21, 2006 also why monitor our posts for foul /swearing Steve, I know u have spoken to Neil, but can i just say that we dont monitor just for swearing or bad language. We have to make sure that no illegal content is uploaded, no links to inappropiate sites are posted, that no bullying occurs, we check for spam and if any is found it is removed. Over the past few weeks there has been increased spam postings which if hadnt of been removed would have clogged up the boards no end. Some of it is caught as soon as it is posted so a lot of it you dont see, We now recieve messages/pms from newbies needing help from how to make that first post or how to navigate the site, which before may have been posted on the site. We are here to help, and this thread was started to see how we could help you and for you to give us ideas on how we could improve. Yes this site has changed over the past few months and i feel that i have changed over the past few months aswell,i try not to post rubbish on the important threads and keep it to the threads where it belongs. Some may disagree with me but im not perfect.. I know that i was a controversial choice as a mod..but i am doing my utmost to do the job as well and as fair as i can.It is not easy having to edit a members post, or ask them to change an avatar/sig/pic.. I do appologise if Neil has already explained all this to you...and i do understand your frustrations. Marian.
Guest 3.5bullet Posted August 22, 2006 Report Posted August 22, 2006 whoah! :D this topic gets shorter each time I read it! someone been pruning in an attempt to save face? copies of the offending text are available to those who wish to see it @ a nominal charge :D
Guest neil_wiles Posted August 22, 2006 Report Posted August 22, 2006 3.5 The two posts which have been removed were of an inflamatory nature with unnecesary use of profanity so it was decided they were not really a valid part of this discussion but suitable for another area of the forum only. Not to save face more to make the thread suitable for reading.
Guest blatters Posted August 22, 2006 Report Posted August 22, 2006 Popped back to my favourite site to see if I could flog my winter wheels and decided to hang around and see what's the top topics. Saw this one and thought I'd add my ex-Galaxy owner's opinion. People.......you should have the misfortune of depending upon the Volvo XC90 owners website. The grief that occurs there between a small, select band of members beggers belief. It's really personal. The moderator ends up closing threads but the troll just skips onto another one and hijacks it. Any attempt to get some technical information means trawling through heaps of personal insults between certain members. The trouble is that I can't find any other website with useful information for my XC90 which, thus far, has been a dream to own. Just as well since diagnosing problems with the car would be challenging on the website. By comparison I have fond memories of the Galaxy site. My Galaxy was a lovely car - when it worked. This site helped resolve a raft of frustrating problems from rattling bodywork to cambelt dealer incompetence. To the moderators I would say: thank you. It's a commitment of time and effort. I think you do a good job. If folk are 80% happy then don't bother trying to close the last 20% to perfection as it will take far too much of your time and effort. If people were really unhappy then I suspect this particular thread would be really busy and it's not - take that as an approval. I'm only replying because I'm laid up with a swollen mouth from my wisdom tooth removal - no wisdom left!! Regards Blatters
Guest neil_wiles Posted August 22, 2006 Report Posted August 22, 2006 Hi Blatters its been a long time... Your views as ever are most welcome. Sell the Volvic and get the new Gal and you can come and frequent this marvelous forum again. Glad to hear from you
baz69 Posted August 22, 2006 Report Posted August 22, 2006 i think mods are a necessary part of the forum ,they do a good job, they are not here to act like big brother but to ensure the site is suitable for all ages and if necessary to try and calm any arguments, and most importantly to help members, i for one would be willing to mod if required just my opinion,
NikpV Posted August 22, 2006 Report Posted August 22, 2006 People.......you should have the misfortune of depending upon the Volvo XC90 owners website. Guest blatters Posted August 22, 2006 Report Posted August 22, 2006 NikpV, try this from a choice Volvo thread: to lev I've tried to defend myself from many accusations, taunts and abuse - and you want me blocked - how rich. How dare you treat me like this along the way - then complain when I put a different view across from the others VL's. to ask for anyone to be blocked is a last resort and should only be taken when people are giving abuse and threatening people with things such as bad language. I've tried to hold myself above this abuse and tried to update threads that are asking for information - I've added both positive and negative comments. My only crime - to not have the same viewpoint as the VL's on this forum. Looking at other abusive participants and the history threads then its quite clear how much value these others provide to the forum. And again you want ME blocked - lovely post Lev and you talk about bs and free speech in the same sentence - you should be ashamed. The thread is three miles long and started because some honest hearted, poor soul asked if anyone thought buying an XC90 was a good idea. Result......World War III broke out after a brief ceasefire. Yep, Mr Peegee with his burnt out XC90 (apparantely) continues to cause havoc. If the Galaxy owners want to be entertained by really vitriolic stuff then there's no need to create it here - just visit the XC90 part of Vspy. Regards. Blatters
