keith9534 Posted August 15, 2006 Report Posted August 15, 2006 Hi can anyone explain what "should" be in a Mk1 Galaxy with regard to audio options I have a 2007 radio. Looking around I have found: A 10 disc changer unit with a seperate control box (not sure how it connects to exisiting radio though?) A six disc changer to fit to a 2007 radio (again...not sure how it fits in with a 2007.......maybe the lead is already in place?) Anyone help? Quote
mumof4 Posted August 16, 2006 Report Posted August 16, 2006 Leads are usually already in place, when i got my gal it had a 5000 head unit with a 6 cd changer in a cubby in the back,I have since upgraded to a 6006e head unit which is a front loading one as the kids kept opening and shutting the cubby! Thanks......don`t think 5000 double din radios will fit in a MK1 though? I had a 6006 in my mondeo but sold it as I heard so many horror stories about them going wrong. Quote
mumof4 Posted August 16, 2006 Report Posted August 16, 2006 oops..i have a MKII....was trying to explain that the leads should already be in place.. ;) Quote
Guest HairyPlateEater Posted August 19, 2006 Report Posted August 19, 2006 my 1999 Ghia X has a 2007 head unit with 6 disc changer in the rear drivers side compartment. Already fitted and working though so no idea if leads should be there in all models Quote
keith9534 Posted August 19, 2006 Author Report Posted August 19, 2006 I think I found a changer lead in mine tucked away, so just need a changer unit if anyone has one? Has anyone put a newer style Ford 6000 unit into a MK1? Over on MEG people are forever making bits to fit the wrong bits into cars (not sure its a Galaxy type of thing to do though?) Quote
Guest 3.5bullet Posted August 19, 2006 Report Posted August 19, 2006 Yes the later style oversized 1.5 din units can be fitted into a Mk1 dash, you will need a blanking plate to fill the gap! available rom any good ICE shop Quote

Does it require any cutting of the stuff thats there already? Don`t have a problem with the wiring side of things.....but does the physical plastic that is in place need altering? Has anyone got a post about doing it? Quote

steve67car Posted August 20, 2006 Report Posted August 20, 2006 if you use an autoleads toyota pocket it will sort out using the later 1.5 din ford unit or use the vw based stuff and you will not need any facia trims ;) Quote

Can a 1.5 Din radio from a MK2 Mondeo be fitted into the dash of a MK1 (double din) dashboard? Quote
Guest 3.5bullet Posted August 21, 2006 Report Posted August 21, 2006 yes but you will need something to fill the .5 din hole left! or as steve suggests use the OE VW kit usually a seperate radio and cd player both single din units and no need for a spacer :D although you may need to remove part of the steel work behind the lower dash to slot the unit in? I see......I`m guessing that nobody actually makes a.5 din plate for this purpose? Putting two single din units in sounds like the original setup for this car. The only reason I ask is that I already have I 6006 and 6000 CD player to use if I can get it right. Otherwise its over to the orginal radio (once I have the amplifier fixed with a TDA 7253 Ic) and the addition of a DVD in dash player. The only problem is that I can`t see any "autolead" that I can use to add the DVD audio into the radio system . With a 6000 I have a soundlinx adaptor to add 3 audio sources in Quote
steve67car Posted August 21, 2006 Report Posted August 21, 2006 yes as i said in previous post use autoleads/maystar toyota half din pocket half din =.5 din  aint rocket sience  follow instructions and it will all become clear  Quote
