tedwards Posted October 9, 2003 Report Posted October 9, 2003 My '97 GhiaX sounds like it has a birds nest hidden somewhere in the engine copmpartment. Its a high pitched whine, seems to be coming from the area of the alternator, similar to a slipping drive belt but not so loud. The belt tension is OK, as I think this is the original belt do they wear/ become smooth and loose drive?. Could it be the alternator or the tensioning pulley? Has any body had experience of this. Thanx Tony Quote
Denis Posted October 9, 2003 Report Posted October 9, 2003 I had this problem with my 2.3 and it turned out to be the fanbelt tensioner, the garage said it was a common problem. Quote
HJT Posted October 9, 2003 Report Posted October 9, 2003 Could be alternator bearings. I had a very similar sound in a Granada some years ago, when I replaced the alternator( due to lack of charging, not because of the sound) the sound went. Howard Quote
