Guest morden8uk Posted August 12, 2006 Report Posted August 12, 2006 Cant believe it, we drive to France on Thursday and ive found a leak from the front of the car (in front of the drivers side wheel) at first I thought it may have been the brakes - no, all dry!?. Then thought suspension, no all dry!?. Moved my hand forward to what felt like a gap thats under the front spoiler and touched a very wet cylinder type object... the liquid is ish clear with a hint of yellow (looks like brake fluid).. took a torch and inspected further, the cylinder has a lable on it but nothing that says what it is!!. the top part of the cylinder has 2 steel pipes running in ou the top??. The pipes look around 10mm each. What is this?. What can I do?. Should I worry?. CheersRob :) Quote

bigdaddy Posted August 12, 2006 Report Posted August 12, 2006 Its connected to the petrol tank and catches fuel vapour and when there is enough vapour the ECM activates the purge valve and sends the vapours into the inlet manifold to be burnt off by the engine :) And its only on a petrol model,,,,,,,,,the diesel does it another way Quote

El Dingo Posted August 13, 2006 Report Posted August 13, 2006 Look at the FAQ's in this section under 'Petrol smell and carbon cannister'. This item is located under the front offside wing. Also the pipes are plastic not steel. Does the liquid smell of/is it petrol? Do you have aircon? You may have a leaking aircon receiver dryer (the liquid could be the lubricating oil)? If it melts paint, it could be brake fluid. :) Quote

The canister is very wet, is it just a case of not running the aircon?. ThanksRob Look at the FAQ's in this section under 'Petrol smell and carbon cannister'.
