keith9534 Posted August 11, 2006 Report Posted August 11, 2006 Hi Just got my Galaxy (1996 Ghia 6 seater) The seller had taken out his JVC stereo and has given me the original stereo (which I quite like) Found the code number, plugged in the three connections and the aerial lead.....all lights up and tunes in Ok, but there is no sound? Having read a few posts on here it appears there is an amplifier fitted somewhere? I don`t believe the previous owner would have fitted the radio himself, so I`m guessing he used an autolead to make it work, but could it be something to do with the amplifier setup? If he cut the wires where is the easiest place to trace them back to......except to the speakers??? Any help would be greatly appreciated TIA Quote
keith9534 Posted August 11, 2006 Author Report Posted August 11, 2006 Sorry to reply to my own thread. Have found the amplifier. Its plugged into the grey multiwire connector and has another plug going into it. Does it sound as if anything is missing? Quote
Guest gooner52 Posted August 12, 2006 Report Posted August 12, 2006 might sound silly, but did he cgange the speakers and then take them out also long shot in the dark Quote

keith9534 Posted August 12, 2006 Author Report Posted August 12, 2006 amp has a 10 amp fuse check it aint blown or it will not work :D steve Is the fuse for the amp in with the other ones (right hand under the dash?) Is it a combined fuse for the amp & radio? If so I would guess it isn`t taht as the radio works. I will have a look when I get home :) Quote

This is the first time I have had to remove things in a galaxy........Mondeo no problem as mine has been apart so many times for upgrades...LOL OK. The amp is out.....a power transistor has blown (quite literally apart!!) I`m now faced with a dilema what to do. I like original equipment, so was going down the route of getting a changer for this setup....and obviously replace the power amp. Or I have a modulator type cd changer that works fine.....not ideal but Ok. Will post a quick question about the power output for the aerial working with a modulator cd...i`m thinking that if the radio provides the power for the aerial to work, it may cause problems? Will do a bit of digging for some information with regard to the bypass leads etc. Quote
Martsa Posted August 16, 2006 Report Posted August 16, 2006 Hello, about removing the amp. Do you have a cc module or manual ac ? Since I need to remove the amp as well but I can't get my cc module out. It is stuck from the left hand side and refuses to come out no matter you pull the module. I have tried to various styles of removal but I cannot even tell what is keeping it stuck. The Haynes manual says "release the spring lock from the center and gently! pull the console out". Gently is a relative term but I do think that I have applied gentle power with no success. I reckon that some of the previous owners have taken it out and then somehow messed the system while putting it back. Any advice about the removal would be greatly appreciated ! About my audio problems. The amp / speakers make a "pop" sound everytime it turn the power on or off. Also the left center (2nd row door) and rear (3rd row) speakers are dead. It seems that there is something wrong with the amp, it wears out the battery in 3-4 days if the car is not being used. I have tried to check the speakers wires from the left hand side but as far as I can tell they seem to be ok. Moving on... I'd like to connect my iPod to car stereos as well but the Ford 2007R RDS don't have that option. Unless I connect my iPod to cd box input with ridiculously expensive adapter (sold in Germany). It if I change the original for another brand head unit, is it possible to still connect the cd box and original stearing wheel remove to that head unit, together with iPod ??? I do not know anything about car audio, so bear my question. Martsa Quote
Binlid Posted September 23, 2006 Report Posted September 23, 2006 no the fuse is in the amp so strip down to find out as the amp needs to come outp.s good luck its not a nice job I have the same problem. Stereo works ok but no sound. I have removed the power amp and opened it up but there does not appear to be a fuse anywhere in it. There is also no visible sign of damage within it either. My Haynes manual (Galaxy 95-2000) show a wiring diagram for a set-up without the power amp and therefore isn't much use for helping my find out why the dam thing doesn't work. I've had two stereo's fitted with the same problem. I have a Galaxy Ghia X, T reg (99). If there is a specific fuse for the power amp, could someone let me know where it is? Thanks Quote

I doubt you can connect the cd changer, without one of those expensive adapters you mentioned. But since your new radio will play mp3 and your ipod will be conected to it, why would you need the changer ?I was told that some Pioneer car stereos include adapters to work with factory steering wheel controls. Not really a problem for me though, I always use the controls on the headunit !! Just don't want to have something (steering whell controls) in my car that doesn't work !!! I think I 'll go for a new Pioneer stereo. Quote
El Dingo Posted September 26, 2006 Report Posted September 26, 2006 I agree, if you get MP3 just forget the changer (and all the hassle). AFAIK the amp is paired to the speakers - if you change the head unit you still need the amp, or the speakers will sound very 'thin'. (I tried it once! :) ) Quote
