Axel Posted October 7, 2003 Report Posted October 7, 2003 Hi, When i purchased my 99 Galaxy 2.3 GLX i was more interested in the safety features and condition of the vehicle than the Entertainment system. The vehicle is fitted with the Ford 2006R RDS model. Recently i started to look at the options of fitting a CD changer and this is when i realised that my Galaxy has been fitted with possibly the lowest spec. head unit. One site on the web said that a CD changer could be fitted to this unit but only if the CD changer cable was fitted from manufacture. I have removed the stereo and guess what - no CD changer lead. No problem i thought, i will buy a second hand head unit from E-bay and then fit a compatible CD changer (Alpine CHm-S630 or Sony CDX-T69 for example) So recently i purchased a Ford 5000RDS EON model for Quote
Guest EVSS Posted October 8, 2003 Report Posted October 8, 2003 on your galaxy you have iso plugs .(basically wireing to fit vag) you can get adapter leads from halfords(should be no more than about twelve pounds) also you may require an aerial adaptor , for the amplified aerial(no more than about a fiver) just a question , why didnt you buy the lead from ford and fit a six disc changer to original unit? while your at halfords look at the escort mk7 radio fitment panel, because you have effectively now a double din hole and the ford stereo 5000 is a din and a half the panel on the escort should fit in the gap gary Quote
Axel Posted October 8, 2003 Author Report Posted October 8, 2003 Hi Gary, Thanks for the info. The reason i didn't buy the CD Changer lead and fit the Ford 6 disk CD changer was that there was no connection on the back of the 2006R model. On www.add-a-cdchanger.co.uk they say the following:- "Sony CD Changer Option for Ford 2007CD radiosSony CDX-T69 6 disc CD Changer package compatible with Ford 2006R, 2007, 2007R, 2007RDS and 2008 radios where a CD lead is pre-installed. *If the CD lead is not pre-installed this CD changer will not work* Check for number on radio fascia.CD Lead: Check in the boot, passenger side behind the lining." My assumption from this is that Ford must have been fitting two different versions of these models, one that had the CD changer interface and one that didn't. As i had no pre-installed cable and no connections on the unit i decided then to upgrade the head unit to the 5000 model. I will get myslef down my local halfords and see if they have the conversion lead and also the housing for a din and a half stereo in a double din gap. Thanks Axel Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted October 9, 2003 Report Posted October 9, 2003 Have a look also at the Ford Scorpio site (details of which I've pasted here before, something like www.fordscorpio.co.uk). This is run by an enthusiast for that model and he covers the different audio units in some detail. You may pick up some tips from there on upgrading/adding an autochanger - plus copies of the user manuals.Ivor. Quote
kevinp Posted October 9, 2003 Report Posted October 9, 2003 Interesting - I was considering fitting a CD changer to my 2006R but assuming you have the lead etc, how do you control the CD player as there are no buttons even referring to a CD player? ;) (Alternatively I might fit a Sony system that I removed from an old Vauxhall before I sold it - but I rather like Ford radios). Axel Posted October 9, 2003 Author Report Posted October 9, 2003 Ivor, thanks for the advise. I has already had a look at the www.fordscorpio.co.uk website. For anyone else looking for details of connectors ets the link is http://fordscorpio.co.uk/radiomenu.htm Unfortunately in my case there is no details of the 2 connectors i have on the back of my 2006R model. There are details on the connectors of the 3000 through to 7000 models. I was interested in the following statement:- "In 9/95 the entire radio range changed, together with the wiring and the connectors and the separate amplifier was deleted. The entire Ford was standardised so that a unit could quickly be upgraded. The range commenced with the 3000 (not fitted to later Scorpios) through 4000 and 5000. The 6000 is a single-CD player/radio, while the 7000 is a radio/cassette with CD controller" My vehicle was registered in 1999 and was fitted with the 2006R model - must have been a case of using up old stock. This info. about the connectors does seem to fit in with the fact that a radio dealer told me that the wiring loom connectors on the 2006R model are the old Mr. Ford connectors where as the connectors on the 3000 range onwards are reffered to as the standard Connectors (Din standard i think) What does not ring true with this is the write-up on upgrading a 2006 model to a 7000 model, again on the Ford Scorpio site at http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/2006upgrade.htmwhere it implies the connectors were the same on these two models. Maybe the 2006 and 2006R connections are different but i doubt it. Anyway when i get time to go down to Halford i am sure all will come clear - i will keep you posted. Finally, unfortunately for all galaxy owners like myself that have the 2006R model, i believe now that there is no option to fit a cd changer to this model, the lowest spec. model to beable to fit a cd changer to is the 2007 and be careful, not all of these can either.
