grandslam Posted August 10, 2006 Report Posted August 10, 2006 Hi allhope someone can help me with this problem or offer some suggestions. My mondeo was running cold and would never heat up. I presumed the thermostat was stuck open so I changed it. Now since changing the thermostat the car starts to overheat at idle such as when stopped at lights. I dont know if it is just a coincidence of just changing the thermostat but presumed it had something to do with it. I replaced all the coolant today and still no difference. Please help Quote
Andrew T Posted August 10, 2006 Report Posted August 10, 2006 When the temp gauge shows it be overheating, feel the radiator and check it's equally hot all over. Quote

grandslam Posted August 16, 2006 Author Report Posted August 16, 2006 thanks for the comments everyone. Can I just ask how high does your needle go on the temperature gauge? and does it rise much when stopped? thanks Quote
mumof4 Posted August 16, 2006 Report Posted August 16, 2006 Mine goes up to halfway (straight up) once car is warm then stops..never had it go over this....(on my Gal that is) Quote
Guest EVSS Posted August 16, 2006 Report Posted August 16, 2006 sounds more like an air lock in the pipes to me. from cold ,take the top of the expansion bottle off, then start the car, and turn the heaters to hot. check the bottle, and top up accordingly. as you have changed the thermostat, was it the correct one as i believe there are a few variants, ie different temps to open. providing you feel happy around moving engine components, check the hoses for even warmth, (i genererally slacken a few off to make sure the air has escaped, much the same as you would bleed a househould radiator.) been a few years since i had a 2 lt mondeo but the needle went to about the r in norm when running.
