bigdaddy Posted August 4, 2006 Author Report Posted August 4, 2006 Cheers mo4,,,,,,,, I forgot to add that over the last month or so,,,,,I had noticed an increase in fuel usage, but my mileage was about the same,,,,,,,, :D Quote
Masked Marauder Posted August 4, 2006 Report Posted August 4, 2006 Temperature sensor or lamba sensor, but a diagnostic may not show either.... Quote
bigdaddy Posted August 4, 2006 Author Report Posted August 4, 2006 cheers MM,,,,both temp sensors replaced in the last few weeks,,,,,,,,,,,any idea the cost of a lambda sensor and I assume I need to get this from ford,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Quote
Masked Marauder Posted August 4, 2006 Report Posted August 4, 2006 I have heard more bad than good about factor lamba sensors so I would try to source a genuine one if that is what you feel is causing the problems. Check it is not a dirty connector to the sensor first though. Quote
bigdaddy Posted August 5, 2006 Author Report Posted August 5, 2006 Loose/dirty connection was checked, as someone mention this, when I was posting about a rough idle problem,,,,,,,would the lambda sensor cause this ;) Quote
Guest neil_wiles Posted August 5, 2006 Report Posted August 5, 2006 I would have the coil packs tested as they can and do give very erratic emission results when they are on the edge of failure themselves Quote
bigdaddy Posted August 6, 2006 Author Report Posted August 6, 2006 Is there a way to check the coils,,,,,is it "replace them to find out if faulty" Quote
gazzauk Posted August 7, 2006 Report Posted August 7, 2006 High emmisons tend to be lamba or cat gone.....When some of my cars have failed i put some super unleaded as it has an higher octaine its burns cleaner just make sure you give it a nice run before you take it in Quote
bigdaddy Posted August 8, 2006 Author Report Posted August 8, 2006 A lambda sensor (Ford call it a HEGO!!!!) is Quote
bigdaddy Posted August 11, 2006 Author Report Posted August 11, 2006 New HEGO fitted and the fuel usage is now up to about 29 to 33 mpg,,,,,,,it was 19 to 23mpg,,,,this is around town,,,,,,,what a difference :( Below is a pic of the one I took out,,,,,, Quote
NikpV Posted August 11, 2006 Report Posted August 11, 2006 did it sort out the emmisions problem ?? Quote
bigdaddy Posted August 11, 2006 Author Report Posted August 11, 2006 Find out monday,,,,,,,,,,,,mot place closed till then,,,,,,,,,but with the increase MPG,,,,,,,,I should hope so!!!!!!! :( Quote
bigdaddy Posted August 15, 2006 Author Report Posted August 15, 2006 Took it in today and it failed again,,,,though the emmissions on idle have improved,,,,,,,any ideas?????????????????????? FAST IDLE TEST: FAILco: 0.67%hc: 37 ppm vol SECOND FAST IDLE TEST: FAILco: 0.69%hc: 41 ppm vol NATURAL IDLE TEST: FAILco: 0.74% Quote
bigdaddy Posted August 15, 2006 Author Report Posted August 15, 2006 ANYBODY???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? Quote
chazhead Posted August 16, 2006 Report Posted August 16, 2006 Hi, sorry you are having trouble, I can't answer for you on things to try but look at this link http://www.dft.gov.uk/stellent/groups/dft_...oads_028503.pdf Page 199, it does show your CO% to be off but your HC looks OK, maybe that info will help someone else identify your problem. bigdaddy Posted August 16, 2006 Author Report Posted August 16, 2006 Cheers, the minimum pass rate is on the print out from the gas analyser Quote
wood73 Posted August 16, 2006 Report Posted August 16, 2006 (edited) Took it in today and it failed again,,,,though the emmissions on idle have improved,,,,,,,any ideas?????????????????????? how far do you drive to the test station?the hotter a cat is the better it works, a good thrashing on the way helps, a fuel treatment tends to helpbut failing all this a new cat is on the cards.the ecu brings emissions down to a point and the cat cleans the rest if the cat element gets saturated it stops working. NikpV Posted August 16, 2006 Report Posted August 16, 2006 high CO would indicate not enough oxygen for complete combustion to CO2 ie still too rich - I know the MAF in the petrol derivatives are not a critical as the tdi but could a dodgy MAF mess the mixture up ? - sorry if youv'e mentioned this - I had a quick read back but couldn't see it. Quote
bigdaddy Posted August 17, 2006 Author Report Posted August 17, 2006 Cheers Nik, you might be right, went out today and disconnected the MAF, and apart from a little hesitation on moving off, the car drove ok :) Quote
