Guest f1lby Posted August 2, 2006 Report Posted August 2, 2006 Hi, I've a 2004 Galaxy TDi. After fitting a towbar & electrics, I now have a 'LUGGAGE COMP. OPEN" error message on the dash. There is always an 'open door' symbol on the dash now. Does anyone know where the luggage compartment sensor lives? I may have yanked a connector or similar, but I don't know where the sensor lives. If anyone knows where the sensor / switch lives on a 2004 TDi I'd be eternally greatful. If I can find the switch / sensor then i've got a good chance of fixing the problem. Everything else functioning fine. Thanks in advance Phil B Quote
seatkid Posted August 2, 2006 Report Posted August 2, 2006 Sounds like another wire in the tailgate loom is broken. Try a search.... Quote

Guest f1lby Posted August 11, 2006 Report Posted August 11, 2006 Hi,Just to inform all of the outcome. Took Galaxy to dealer (still under warranty). Dealer said the car was distorted at the back. Fitting the towbar had caused slight distortion of the chassis and in turn had caused the tailgate striker to move slightly down, thus the tailgate was not latching properly on to the striker. Loosened towbar bolts - problem gone. Re-tightened bolts - tightening up the bolts diagonally - i.e. the bolts on opposite corners first - problem fixed. So remember - word of warning - be careful when tightening the bolts of the towbar as if tightened in the wrong order the shape of the rear of the car can change slightly (enough to cause the latch to fail to connect with the striker properly). Cheers Phil B Quote
Andrew T Posted August 11, 2006 Report Posted August 11, 2006 What would happen if the wire to the tailgate handle were to break where the loom passes through the boot from the body to the tailgate ? Is it possible to take the trim panel off from the inside while the tailgate is locked shut ?I had a taste of this problem when camping the other week, after loading the car up finishing with stuffing a large wet tent on top of everything I went to start the car and found the Battery was flat. In it's death throws the tailgate decided to lock itself shut. I then realised that the the jump leads were inaccessable in the comparment under the rear lamp. The only way to get them was to climb through from the back seat and fight my way over the wet tent and down the back of the boot and drag the the jump leads out. At least my antics amused the kids.
