NikpV Posted August 1, 2006 Report Posted August 1, 2006 Bringing the wheelie bin in today I knocked the wing mirror with my upper arm walking from rear to front and it BROKE OFF leaving the aluminium bracket attached to the car and the mirror dangling by the cables. My arm is not bruised and I felt that I hardly touched it  On examination the plastic bush which connects the two aluminium castings had just broken off, there was no sign that it had been partially broken before - the break appeared the same colour all the way around. Wonder if the plastic had become brittle over time. In the end I made a temporary repair by tapping a 2BA thread in the bracket and bolted the aluminium top frajkme to the bracket (used a self tapper on the other side sine the aluminium was a bit thin to tap. Result seems very solid - only problem is now there is no give if something hits the mirror (from front to back) should I look to replace my temporary repair or not??  Quote
Guest neil_wiles Posted August 1, 2006 Report Posted August 1, 2006 Nik You should most definitely replace it as if there should be a collison front to back then instead of the mirror folding the door panel is likely to do the folding. Quote
baz69 Posted August 1, 2006 Report Posted August 1, 2006 saw some mirrors on ebay the other day, reasonable price too Quote
NikpV Posted August 3, 2006 Author Report Posted August 3, 2006 cheers neil & baz will have a look :( Quote
Masked Marauder Posted August 4, 2006 Report Posted August 4, 2006 I would think that it fixed fast would result in the car failing to comply with construction and use regs. Not something that you would get picked up on, as long as it did not strike someones head.... Quote
