muffking Posted August 1, 2006 Report Posted August 1, 2006 Hi guys I need to find the fuse for the auxillary 12v supply that supplies the headunit on my Mk2 without having to go through all of the fuses (nightmare task) as the radio goes off after 1 hour and my sat nav, DVD player & screen have all gone off which are also fed from the same supply (time for some rewiring then). The HU has a one hour timer when the ignition is off, this stops you draining the battery by leaving the radio on when you're not in the car, as the multimedia kit takes a voltage from the HU when it is on to enable it to power up just change this feed to a switched/permanent live think it is pin7 on the power module of th HU. muffking Posted August 1, 2006 Author Report Posted August 1, 2006 My sat nav is aftermarket and is wired to the ignition live on the back of the stereo so that it goes off when the key is in the off position, but as the stereo only stays on for one hour when the ignition is ON and my DVD/Sat Nav/monitor are all dead it must be down to the lack of an ignition live which is why I suspect the fuse has gone, but the manual doesn't make it clear which fuse it is and it's impossible to tell without taking them all out. Fuse No 30 or 31 Quote
muffking Posted August 1, 2006 Author Report Posted August 1, 2006 Spot on mate, fuse 31. It was a 3 amp fuse that had blown. I only had a 5 amp to replace it with but I'll buy some more before I rewire the supply to the navi/dvd unit to stop it blowing again. For now at least i've managed to retrieve my daughters The Magic Roundabout DVD so that I can back it up in case it gets scratched in the car. Quote

Nice one kiddo....use a decent quality disc for back-ups...the visteon unit can be a bit fussy apparently though I've never had any probs... Quote
muffking Posted August 1, 2006 Author Report Posted August 1, 2006 lol, again the DVD player also an aftermarket jobbie. It's a DIN sized Panasonic in the rear wing compartment (the original owner must have been tight with the options as it doesn't have any) ;) The Panasonic is a little old and also fussy about what it plays so I have to use DVD+R as it won't play DVD-R copies, the make of disc doesn't seem to matter though. muffking Posted August 1, 2006 Author Report Posted August 1, 2006 not a problem, thanks for the help. the missus nearly blew a fuse when the whole lot went down. I suppose it's my fault for tapping into a 3 amp supply though. Quote

muffking Posted August 1, 2006 Author Report Posted August 1, 2006 I'll need to have a proper look at the wiring that I ran to the boot as they need an ignition live to turn them off when I take the key out, but I've been taking the permanent live from the cigarette lighter socket in the boot, I just can't remember if any of the ICE takes it's main supply from the ignition live or just uses it to switch them on & off.
