In fact I've been thinking about removing it completely and relacing it with a blanking plate to make getting the cover on and off easier. Build quality is great for the price and all the equipment has been reliable so far. A light towing wieght for the Galaxy had sold us on this model or the equivalent Avondale Dart and we haven't been dissapointed. Quote

jkspoff Posted June 4, 2007 Report Posted June 4, 2007 This is our very first camping trip with 'new to us' caravan, hence the slightly off-balanced caravan, still got a few things to learn, it took the journey home for the rest of the shower water to drain away ! It took a couple staying in the plot next to us to give us a few pointers about unhitching and wooden blocks under the stabilisers on the grass ! ;) We are looking forward to many more caravanning trips in the very near future now that we're getting into the swing of it. :) Thats is when the Galaxys fixed..... :( Quote
Charlie Posted June 9, 2007 Report Posted June 9, 2007 Hi All, We've just had our first trip out towing with the Galaxy to the Camping & Caravanning Club Site, Scarborough (nice site) The Galaxy towed very well even on all the hills and there's plenty of them travelling from Leyland to Scarborough!! Its uphill or downhill all the way (a good test) The caravan is a 1999 Lunar Solar524, MTPLM 1300KG, We've had it from 2 year old, end bathroom layout will never go back to side layout I've even managed to sort the "Visual dash warning light" after fitting the towbar myself, with help from the forum. The outfit was that steady on the road, the wife is even thinking of trying her hand at towing!! Quote
bogjam Posted June 9, 2007 Report Posted June 9, 2007 Here is ours, before our last trip and at the site, Fairly heavy van at about 1450KG MTPLM and a car full of kids, towed brilliantly, the only thing was that towing we get about 24mpg and we tried to get to Thirsk on half a tank, fuel light came on before we left the A1, day before payday with the site to pay for.... A big sigh of relief when we parked up on the site in view of a filling station! Quote
jkspoff Posted June 10, 2007 Report Posted June 10, 2007 I've not yet tackled the awning that came with my caravan, I notice you have one attached, how easy is it to put up and how long does it take you ? I don't want the embarassment on site of trying to sort it out ! Quote
bogjam Posted June 10, 2007 Report Posted June 10, 2007 First time with the awning was a pain, but we took the van to a cerified location just around the corner from our house to break the van in and to be honest we had no worries about embarrassment because we were there alone, it took a fair while the first time to put it up but after a few trips out two of us can get the awning up in about twenty or thirty minutes. Once you have set it up for the first time you get to know where the pieces go and it is quite simple to do from then on. The other thing is that caravanners are a strange breed and I'm sure that people wouldn't watch anyone struggle and help would be to hand, but I must admit that I wanted to practice out of the way before trying to put it up on a large site!
