Hope you like them! umm picture seems to have been kidnapped :P Quote

NikpV Posted November 8, 2006 Report Posted November 8, 2006 It shows both on my screen?... :( umm thats odd if I 'reply' to your post I can see the url 'http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b208/littlenewt2067/Newvan16.jpg' but no image appears either through the forum or by typing the url directly. This is the same at home (with zen) and at work - wonder if its a browser issue - running ie7 here Quote

littlenewt2067 Posted November 8, 2006 Report Posted November 8, 2006 Its the 2.8 6 spd manual..I will try and get it in my sig! :( Quote
Guest gooner52 Posted November 8, 2006 Report Posted November 8, 2006 any ideas what the 1.9tdi autos are like pulling a rig like that :( Quote
littlenewt2067 Posted November 8, 2006 Report Posted November 8, 2006 I don't but I have seen a lot of people towing this sort of size caravan with them...bordering twin axle territory! My neighbour towed a similar size caravan with a 1.9 but I think that was a manual? I think they are fine. I saw a Laguna estate towing the same caravan as mine a few weeks back and someone locally has a Mondeo they tow theirs with....I reckon they would be a darn site better than mine for towing, the torque is too high up the range....constant changing down on gradual inclines, down to 3rd from 6th mostly!! Once you get it going it does fly..... :( :( Quote
Guest gooner52 Posted November 8, 2006 Report Posted November 8, 2006 :( will look around 4 some more info m8 just wondered what the auto diesel was like at towing only ever towed a erde 142 ,with her so far Quote

ATB Posted November 16, 2006 Report Posted November 16, 2006 any ideas what the 1.9tdi autos are like pulling a rig like that :D Looking at the pictures they've got a Bailey Pagent and used to tow a Bailey Discovery. As models go, the 'Discovery' is the base model, the 'Ranger' next and then the 'Pagent' - each step up in model increases the weight slightly, but not by a vast amount. I tow a Bailey Ranger with a 1.9 115ps Manual and it's fine, I expect I'd be able to tow a Pagent with similar ease. HTHATB Quote
tim-spam Posted November 16, 2006 Report Posted November 16, 2006 1.9 TDI - 310Nm (in the same ballpark as a VR6 - better than the Mk1 VR6) at 1900rpm. Tows a large caravan just fine. In 5th gear 60mph = 2000rpm, which is just above peak torque. Quote
lazyb5 Posted November 20, 2006 Report Posted November 20, 2006 Hi guys i pull an old Elddis Typhoon weighing in at 1232kg and the only thing i do is to push the box into tiptronic once its in 5th gear that way it dosent change down at the least little hill other than that its great.hope this helped someone :P Quote

7up Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 Hi all, I have a 98 TDI with a superchip fitted. I have been towing since 2000 when i got my first caravan, a Elddis wisp and then a Avondale Dart 510 and now I'm on my third caravan a sterling Europa 495. All i can say is that the Galaxy has always towed well and i would buy another one when I change from this Galaxy Quote

Grumpy Posted January 18, 2007 Author Report Posted January 18, 2007 Homer That looks like a great outfit, make mine look a little inadequate. Still its not size that counts (so I keep telling the missus!) Quote
7up Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 A good web site for caravanners is touring and tenting.com. Very friendly lot with plenty of good information and tips. They also have a lot of rallies throughout the year. I'm on there a lot so if your interested have a look. I hope its alright to promote this web site on here if not sorry Quote
Guest walz Posted January 22, 2007 Report Posted January 22, 2007 This is what i will be towing with the Gal, The Gal in the picture is the previous owners. I towed it back from just outside Stratford upon Avon with a 1.9 Berlingo van that i had, took 4.5 hrs at a speed of 40 MPH unless i could get a slip streaming affect off a passing artic, what a nightmare that was. Hopefully the Gal will tow it, haven't tried yet but will over the next month or so. Walz Quote
