Guest bigal Posted July 27, 2006 Report Posted July 27, 2006 Yes it does seems quite good just wandered what other people thought. I will go see it tomorrow, i just hate dealing with car sales people, they always rip you off with part exchange but its the easiest way to change a car. Any other thoughts? Is there anything not on the spec list there that should be on? Cheers Quote
mumof4 Posted July 27, 2006 Report Posted July 27, 2006 someone better able than me can tell. :16: Quote

Guest bigal Posted July 27, 2006 Report Posted July 27, 2006 Hi, no it doesnt have warranty but i am going to get one from warranty direct. I thought the 2.3 had chain not belt? I will check out climate control, what faults am i looking for? Any tell tale signs of imminant failure? Thanks for advice. :16: Quote
mumof4 Posted July 27, 2006 Report Posted July 27, 2006 When you turn the car on..it may flash!!!!!!or just not work. :16: Quote
Guest MATT jr Posted July 27, 2006 Report Posted July 27, 2006 Sounds good... just make sure you test everything!, and test everything again! a warranty is a wise move, as there are common, expensive failures - aircon being among the top of the list, and given the weather, it should be easy to see if its working or not. also check rear wiper/washer, as thats another common fault, which can lead to more expensive faults... just check everything, if all ok, there a good car, honest! Guest bigal Posted July 27, 2006 Report Posted July 27, 2006 When you turn the car on..it may flash!!!!!!or just not work. :16: Yeah had the same problem with my passat climate, but a regass sorted that. Thanks for all your help everyone, i will check everything works. Just another point, i forget to mention its an autobox are there any issues that anyone knows of? Quote
teresa Posted July 27, 2006 Report Posted July 27, 2006 :D remember to check the wheel nut locking keymake sure it aint damaged it fits if it has one...... cus they are a swine to get them off if u have puncture :D :16: im still trying :16: Quote
El Dingo Posted July 27, 2006 Report Posted July 27, 2006 This is a private sale, yes? Good price, but get a warranty. Quote
ahnea Posted July 27, 2006 Report Posted July 27, 2006 and dont forget to check tyre condition....reinforced ones cost can around Quote
mumof4 Posted July 28, 2006 Report Posted July 28, 2006 You can get budget reinforced tyres for around 50/60 quid Quote

The car is from a ford dealer, i think the reason there is no warranty is its age, but i will try and persuade them to give me a warranty. Quote
mumof4 Posted July 28, 2006 Report Posted July 28, 2006 Even if you only get a 3 month one out of them...should give you chance to run the car in and see if there are any problems... :16: ..(she says........) Quote
Guest MATT jr Posted July 28, 2006 Report Posted July 28, 2006 if its an automatic, just make sure its smooth (within reason) and doesnt hold on to the gears. again, try everything (tip-tronic mode, if it has it, etc) MJR Quote
chesh100 Posted July 28, 2006 Report Posted July 28, 2006 Talking to a local car dealer recently, and he said that by law that all dealers have to give a six month warrenty on any sales, not the three months that most dealers mention. Whether it's just from their own workshop, or a proper warrenty is down to each individual dealer. Quote

Whether it's just from their own workshop, or a proper warrenty is down to each individual dealer. That is interesting any idea if there is a website for some more info on this. I have just been for a quick look at the car, it looks in good condition, except its going to need 4 new tyres soon and probably brake pads, didnt start it or anything need to take the 'boss' (wife) to have a look.I nearly burnt my back on the leather seats, dont know whether thats a good thing with young kids. How do people get on with weekly shopping, there doesnt seem to be a lot of boot room with all seats in place? I know you can take seats out but the missus wont want to do that every week. The dealer said its sold as seen so any faults will not be fixed, kind of puts me off. I noticed the glove box nearest driver wont open, is this an easy fix? Sorry for all the questions i just want to make sure i am doing the right thing. :) Quote
mumof4 Posted July 28, 2006 Report Posted July 28, 2006 I fold my seats flat.As i have one spare seat i took one of the very rear seats out so i have space..then wen i go shopping i just fold the other down...Once you know how to get the seats in and out,..can be done in no time at all.Just be careful as they are very heavy! El Dingo Posted July 28, 2006 Report Posted July 28, 2006 Leather great with kids! Easy to clean, difficult to damage.(Mind you, depends on how messy your kids are... :) ) Quote
gregers Posted July 28, 2006 Report Posted July 28, 2006 sounds like the dealer knows somethings wrong with it,if hes empisized sold as seen.most dealers ive ever dealt with are sly buggers and only out to make a profit,so if the car was in good condition why wouldnt they try to sell it for top money and put a warrenty on it,me smells a rat. sanjsanj Posted July 29, 2006 Report Posted July 29, 2006 a word of advice: check every little thing, and i mean EVERYTHING! you need to query the smallest things....its a ***king brill way to knock money off.... also, i think i read somewhere that it comes with three keys, not two....was i dreaming?do all mk2's have tiptronic? take it for a long test drive!, can i also mention taking a mechanic friend with you? Guest bigal Posted July 30, 2006 Report Posted July 30, 2006 ok took the wife and kids to look at the car, they really liked it, we tried to check everything we could. Wipers worked ok although rear one hasnt got wash facility is this right, aircon has just been fixed so that worked fine although not as powerful as my passat, but i like how you can set different temps for each side of the cabin. Checked oil level and filler cap again all fine. Brakes and discs were fine, rear pads will need changing in a few thousand, but we only do about 5k a year. Wheel locking nut was present. It has just had its full service last month and the service book is stamped and up to date. On the test drive it drove fine, its awhile since i have driven an auto but it seemed ok never had chance to check tiptronic or cruise as there was hardly any fuel in it and the kids were driving us nuts, but will test drive again before i decide (without the kids in toe). Brakes seemed a bit weak, they did stop ok but seemed to take longer than i expected, although it is big heavy car. Its hard not to compare to the passat, ive just got to remember its a completley different driving experience. A few small niggley things lumbar support wheel came off in my hand, but wouldnt have thought they would be that expensive. both ford badges are not in the best condition. Interior needs a very good valet on the carpets and one of the head rests is stained with what looks like spots of rust (not from the car though) One of the glove boxes is a bit dodgey but i can live with that. Tyres need replacing soonish as mentioned before but are by no way illegal, so might change a couple at a time, spare was the best one. although couldnt figure out how to lower it. I think thats abought it if you think of anything else i need to check on second test drive let me know. Cheers Alex Quote
