Guest gedd Posted October 3, 2003 Report Posted October 3, 2003 Hello All, just joined today cos I only just found the site. I used to get shunted around the yankie "galaxie" sites b4 I found this one.Anyway, here goes, my 2.3 ghia auto (1998) died yesterday after a v. short illness. The immobilser light was staying on as i was driving, it was starting to be a bit sluggish on starting and it nearly conked out twice before finally giving up the ghost, fortunately, outside my house. In addition, my ABS light is staying on.The car has just had a full service last month with new pads fitted all round. After reading some posts on here, I checked all the lines and sockets and found the front drivers abs socket loose, having re-fitted it, i hope that cures that problem. My main problem is the engine turning over but failling to start. When I try to start it my immobilser light stays on.Anyway, I phoned the local dealer and they charge Quote
Guest JIMSTDI Posted October 3, 2003 Report Posted October 3, 2003 hi gedd i had the same problem a couple of months back,in a 1998 ford transit van,the immobiliser had been playing about for a while,ie ud put the key fob on the dash and the light just would not go out, then after a while shed start.. to cut a long story short was in deptford se london one day got back to the van same problem started again, and this time just would not go.. so we called out kenfeld recovery,u had a go at trying to get it started ,he nearly set the whole thing on fire  anyway after about an hour and wires all over the place he got it started, but totaly by passing the blo ody thing, and the van was taken back up to forest hill to have a new fitted i know the system is quite a bit different on the gals anyway hope u get it sorted all the bestjames Quote
Guest gedd Posted October 3, 2003 Report Posted October 3, 2003 Hi Jim, nice to get such a prompy reply  I notice that you are quite enthusiastic on here.As I said earlier, my warranty has just run out so I have been out of the habit of the hit and miss search for a good tradesman for a while. It usually ends in tears tho.I`m near to Edinburgh so if I find a good spark it probably won`t be any use to yourself but perhaps other owners will benefit. I`ll keep my fingers crossed.I`ll let u know on Monday if I manage to get it sorted without too much fuss. Cheers :) Quote
Guest gedd Posted October 3, 2003 Report Posted October 3, 2003 Jeez Fred,No early night for me now. Thanks very much for the codes, I`m going out now to see if i can make any sense of it. Although, I`m no spark !! I had a problem with the keys a while back, when I had to get two new ones cut. Unfortunately I didn`t pay enough attention to the problem at the time. It may be the same problem as before. I`ll keep u posted, Thanks again. Quote
Guest gedd Posted October 3, 2003 Report Posted October 3, 2003  It just shows you that technology is not all its cracked up to be. My 1st Mini clubman got me out late away from her indoors regularly :) Anyway, I escaped long enough to do the test and it trew up a Code 1:6 on the LED.I notice that you had a note saying (2.0l DOHC engines only with SCP PATS). My one is a 2.3 DOHC, I don`t know about the PATS system, or , to be honest, the EEC V module. When you say "go to FDS2000" does that mean the Ford 2000 computer in the dealers, and if so, do u think i am wasting my time trying to avoid their extortionate fees and I should just bite the bullet ? Danny Boy Posted October 3, 2003 Report Posted October 3, 2003 If only i'd have known that before...i would have brought one sooner fredt!!! Quote
Guest gedd Posted October 3, 2003 Report Posted October 3, 2003 Hey fred, with just a little practice, i`m at least gonna have this spark know where the problem is (or could be). If I can deliver a little speech peppered with enough acronyms and technical mumbo provided by your fine self, there is at least a chance of gaining the high moral ground...and he`ll perhaps feel a little unsure of trying to bamboozle this poor peasant with his white-mans-magic and incomprehensible pricing of basically cheap electronic compoments. Report delivered on monday...wish me luck !! Quote
Guest JIMSTDI Posted October 4, 2003 Report Posted October 4, 2003 hi gedd hope u get it sorted all ok keep us up to date all the best james  Quote
Guest gedd Posted October 4, 2003 Report Posted October 4, 2003 good morning james, i`ll let u know what happens with the spark on monday. apparently the guy is clued up as he worked for the main dealers around here (peoples), we`ll see. Sorry about the confusion over bhp on the new member post. the short answer is...i don`t have a clue. :) how would i find that one out? i do know that its got more than enough power to be driven quite fast and responds well overtaking, especially if i drop the gears down to 3rd or 2nd.i had it over to killarney in the sw of ireland last month and enjoyed the 6 hour drive / dash back to belfast for the ferry home  Quote
Guest JIMSTDI Posted October 4, 2003 Report Posted October 4, 2003 hi gedd it tells u in the tech section of the handbook my friend i know on older fords people used to say 2.3 was a waste of time as it didnt have the power of the 2.8 nor the mpg on a 2.0 but that was a long time ago now!newer fords have changed a lot all the best james  Quote
