Guest ZetecWarrior Posted July 25, 2006 Report Posted July 25, 2006 Hi there I'm a newbie so please be gentle, I have a 05 galaxy diesel When I turn the steering wheel I get big vibration through the steering column and a rubber against metal sound. The sound is the same noise that you would hear if the car was sat still on a painted concrete multi storey car park floor. This sound has only just started. Should add that the steering is fine other than the noise The car is due for a service in 2 weeks but I don't want to do any damage -_- Any ideasZW Quote
Masked Marauder Posted July 25, 2006 Report Posted July 25, 2006 It sounds like the drive belt is skipping on the power steering pump pulley. It is unlikely that you will do any damage. Quote
Guest ZetecWarrior Posted July 25, 2006 Report Posted July 25, 2006 Thanks for the quick reply Would a new belt shut it up ?Or could the tensioner be at fault ? Quote
Masked Marauder Posted July 25, 2006 Report Posted July 25, 2006 The belt has most likely stretched and needs replaced. Quote
Guest ZetecWarrior Posted July 25, 2006 Report Posted July 25, 2006 Is that an easy DIY job or best to leave until service ? Quote
Masked Marauder Posted July 25, 2006 Report Posted July 25, 2006 Easy enough, look how the belt is routed, release the tensioner, remove old belt, put on new belt, re tension the tensioner. Quote
