Leigh Posted July 24, 2006 Report Posted July 24, 2006 Hello everyone, I have a 1996 2 litre Galaxy that has been regularly serviced. It drives very well and is never driven hard or not done any towing. It has now done 96,000 miles. The engine is quite and does not rattle. My questions are - 1. Should I renew the timing chain or carry on driving ? 2. How much would it cost to replace the timing chain ? 3. How difficult a job is it for a DIY ? Cheers, Leigh. Quote
tim-spam Posted July 24, 2006 Report Posted July 24, 2006 Chains get quite noisy before they fail, so if your's is quiet, smile and relax. Quote
El Dingo Posted July 24, 2006 Report Posted July 24, 2006 To really love :D the timing chain, change the oil regularly, especially if your car lives a life of short runs in cold weather. Quote
seatkid Posted July 24, 2006 Report Posted July 24, 2006 premature chain failure is mainly a VR6 habit...... chains are normally for life...... Quote
