Charliemuttley Posted July 23, 2006 Report Posted July 23, 2006 Hi guys, just wondered how involved it is to replace evaporator in mark 1 Galaxy. Have just changed pipes, compressor, condensor and drier and now have a leak in the evaporator! I have done all work myself and am keen to finish. I AM THE IDIOT THAT PUT THE SIERRA ENGINE IN HIS GALAXY!!! HOW HARD CAN IT BE??????? Quote
Ogben Schmutzel Posted July 23, 2006 Report Posted July 23, 2006 As I understand it, it is difficult and takes a few days but for someone with your undoubted skills I reckon quite achievable!! Have a look in the FAQ (pinned at the top of this group) for an excellent post on replacing the evaporator! How do you KNOW that you have an evaporator leak? Cheers.Oggy. Quote
Charliemuttley Posted July 23, 2006 Author Report Posted July 23, 2006 I only know i have that leak because when gased up you can hear hissing from the dash and i have replaced everything else in the system because it was knackered, so hell why not finish the job properly!! Cheers Quote
MrT Posted July 24, 2006 Report Posted July 24, 2006 Are you sure it is a leak hiss you are hearing? There is normally a slight hiss like (gurgling) noise in the evaporator as the liquid boils into a gas. Quote
Charliemuttley Posted July 24, 2006 Author Report Posted July 24, 2006 Yes i am afraid so, we tried to pull a vacuum and it wouldn't hold, then put a bit of gas in to find leak and definately came from evaporator. IS IT REALLY THAT HARD TO CHANGE????? -_- Quote
seatkid Posted July 24, 2006 Report Posted July 24, 2006 :o -_- :( :) :D :16: -_- :o :o -_- :o :16: -_- :16: :o :16: ;) B) ^_^ Quote
Charliemuttley Posted July 24, 2006 Author Report Posted July 24, 2006 Yeah.........must admit just read Haynes on dash removal- oh dear!!! Changing engine is one thing but taking out dash!!!!! Oh pants! -_- Quote
Ogben Schmutzel Posted July 25, 2006 Report Posted July 25, 2006 As I understand it, once you have got to the evaporator it is a couple of hours work. To get to the evaporator requires removal of the dash and removal of the heater assembly. The dash removal being the job that takes the time. Oggy. Quote
