mumof4 Posted July 21, 2006 Report Posted July 21, 2006 well you could just pull the lot out clean and regrease if you are worried....or spray wd40 down the spindle... Quote
Goofygolfer Posted July 22, 2006 Report Posted July 22, 2006 I too fell victim yesterday to the seized wiper syndrome.now all stripped out cleaned and regreased.the passenger side spindle was seized solid, unfortunatly in my enthusiasm(anger and impatience) to remove the spindle i snapped off one of the mounting lugs, d'oh!!,managed to screw 2 plates to repair the break so hopefully my bodge should last fingers crossed. ;) Quote

mumof4 Posted July 22, 2006 Report Posted July 22, 2006 I used copperease as recommended to me on here. Quote
Goofygolfer Posted July 23, 2006 Report Posted July 23, 2006 sorry gazza forgot to take pics but i used 2 small strips of steel 25x10x3 drilled and screwed to join the break.the spindles are quite easy to remove just a c clip, extract o ring and withdraw spindle in theory however my passenger side was seized solid hence a large portion of hammering with copper mallet to shift spindle.had a can of spray grease knocking about in shed so i used that Quote

gazza007 Posted July 30, 2006 Report Posted July 30, 2006 All working now, cold weld used on the mounting. Wipers very smooth & free.He only wanted Quote
Guest HairyPlateEater Posted August 2, 2006 Report Posted August 2, 2006 Always worth using a decent grease like Copper Ease as any cheap stuff will melt away in excess heat. I used some old axle grease I had lying round the shed the first time I stripped mine down, but last week while on holiday in Devon after the heatwave we've had, it seized again. Luckily father-in-law lives down there and used to own an MOT station so had all the tools and decent grease required to do the job again - this time 2 hours to remove, strip, grease and refit! Certainly beats MO4's 3 days!! lol Quote
dredge3 Posted August 2, 2006 Report Posted August 2, 2006 I started to strip everthing down to check motor and ars etc. When it came to taking the big cover off, it sounded like it was stuck down, so I stopped and just sprayed wd in side.Is the bit plate, (the one with a bolt at each end) stuck down in any way? I didnt want to pull it away and find water pees in and kill the wiper motor Quote
Guest HairyPlateEater Posted August 2, 2006 Report Posted August 2, 2006 Which big cover is this dredge? the one at the bottom of the windscreen or the removable plastic bulkhead underneath the linkage? If it's the top one, it's held in by 5 push fit connectors that you can just pull out. If it's the bulkhead, it is held in by 3 screws. 2 either end at the top of the front wings and another in the middle that also holds the throttle cable off the top of the engine. It's a tight fit to get out and for ease of removal, you'll also need to take off the top of the air filter housing. HTH <_< Quote
