Guest anakin skywalker Posted July 21, 2006 Report Posted July 21, 2006 Sorry if this has been asked before but I found the left hand horn button on the drivers seat it apparently just popped out I tried to refit but it looks like the four little lugs have broken off from within the steering wheel now here comes the question is it going to be a new/secondhand wheel ,by the way its on a 1997 19tdi any ideas .Thanks . ;) Quote
chesh100 Posted July 21, 2006 Report Posted July 21, 2006 Just replaced mine ;) There's a post in here somewhere that I followed giving full instructions on how to change the horn buttons. Think I just searched under 'horn'. One thing to be aware of if you decide to renew the button, the wires on my Gal where different length and style to what the dealer supplied, i was able to adjust mine, but might be best to check the wiring first before buying, or at least check they will change them if they are wrong. Best of luck Quote

Masked Marauder Posted July 22, 2006 Report Posted July 22, 2006 I may have read the original post wrong but the OP was suggesting that the lugs it clips into in the wheel were broken. Is this not the case, are the lugs he sees part of the switch assembly? Quote

chesh100 Posted July 22, 2006 Report Posted July 22, 2006 Just found my receipt from my local dealers. Set of two buttons Quote
tiny Posted July 24, 2006 Report Posted July 24, 2006 I bought the ones on ebay and the wires were different on those too. Fords quoted me less than a tenner but would have to order them in and then i'd have to drive across town to collect them. Ebay may not always be the cheapest, but how many Ford dealers do home delivery? A simple solution is to seperate the 2 parts of the switch (the button from the housing) and use the wiring/contacts that were on the old switch. Thats all I did, took about 2 minutes and the 2 parts of the switch seperate and refit easily. Quote
