Guest Paul L Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 I've got four kids all under ten, hence my need for a people carrier in this case a Galaxy 2.0 GLXi (1997 'R). I'm absolutely sick to death of having to replace the speaker grilles, especially those in the rear doors. The plastic material they're made from is far too brittle and has no tolerance to any kind of impact. My three year old daughter is always catching the O/S rear as she climbs into the car. Thing is, once broken, the damaged edges are like razors so on grounds of safety alone, I have to change them. Last time I went to my local Ford dealer for something else, I ended up buying half a dozen - one or two as replacements, the rest as spares! At Quote
iainkirk Posted October 3, 2003 Report Posted October 3, 2003 Ohhh the speaker grilles in the "Mk1" Galaxy! I kept a stock of them! Save money...buy a facelift model! The speaker grilles are more resilient (well, they've lasted a whole month so far....) Quote
Guest JIMSTDI Posted October 3, 2003 Report Posted October 3, 2003 ah fredt u dont like our mk2`s much then climate control no faults, drinks holders wicked,no peeling on handles and i just love the clock ,digi ones suck but yes clove box is to small, but what the heck dont use the car anyway much it looks after my tmc box that will do james Quote
Guest Paul L Posted October 6, 2003 Report Posted October 6, 2003 Fredt, Didn't really want to spend money on replacement sound system. The only reason I have the radio/cassette on in the first place is to drown out gearbox noise !!!!!!!!!!!! Regards Paul Quote
Guest mjb Posted October 11, 2003 Report Posted October 11, 2003 Just found this forum and I like it! I too have rear speakers that are broken by my little ones. Where can they be bought and are they easy to replace - I thought you had to remove the entire door panel? Quote
Guest jar Posted October 11, 2003 Report Posted October 11, 2003 are you going on about the speakers in the rear shelfing panels... how old is your galaxy halford sell them, also most ice shops we do the speakers also.. makes like kenwood sony etc do aftermarket speakers that will fit!!! the cards are quite simple to take off!!! j Quote
Guest mjb Posted October 11, 2003 Report Posted October 11, 2003 Mine's a 96 model and the speakers are where a childs feet would be if sat behind the driver / front passenger. I've tried to remove the broken bits, but they seem integrated with the entire door panel, hence me thinknig it would be difficult to change. Quote
Guest jar Posted October 11, 2003 Report Posted October 11, 2003 hi mjb a couple of things i would try would be,breakers yard door cards, make your own, see how they speaker grills re stuck onto the card are they metal or plastic on the mk 1 j Quote
Guest mjb Posted October 11, 2003 Report Posted October 11, 2003 They're plastic. But can you get them off WITHOUT taking off the door panel? Quote
Guest jar Posted October 11, 2003 Report Posted October 11, 2003 u will need the specail tool to remove the round door clips can be bought from halfords or fords also might be worth buying a tis cd rom j Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted October 11, 2003 Report Posted October 11, 2003 Mr White, buying the TIS CD rom is against copyright. Quote
Guest jar Posted October 11, 2003 Report Posted October 11, 2003
Mr White, buying the TIS CD rom is against copyright. AND YOU ARE WHO AND MR WHITE
PARDON MR MOUSE Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted October 11, 2003 Report Posted October 11, 2003 earwig oh again TIS CD is the Ford technical information CD-ROM issued to dealers to help them try to fix technical problems. One can but them from certain sources, eg Ebay (although there seem doubts as to their legality) but they can be useful in sorting some problems with the Galaxy (and other Ford vehicles). ISTR that Mk I Speaker grilles can be cut off without removing the door trim, and the recommended (by Ford?) repair is to use a hot-melt glue gun to fit replacements, thereby also avoiding the need to remove the door trim. As has been remntioned, it may pay to invest in some after-market speakers with metal grilles. Hope this helps Ivor (De Silva?) Quote
Guest mjb Posted October 12, 2003 Report Posted October 12, 2003 Thanks Ivor I think I need to find some metal grilles - maybe start at Halfords? Quote
LOZ Posted October 16, 2003 Report Posted October 16, 2003 Whats the part number from RS Components for the speaker grilles? Can only find 3/4/5" black plastic ones so far! Are we talking the same RS Components that sell allsorts of stuff? My works use them so I could get a discount! Thanks Quote
Guest mjb Posted October 16, 2003 Report Posted October 16, 2003 Didn't get the metal ones in the end. I went to our local Ford spares depot, told them my model & year and they just brought it up on the PC and went out the back and got them! Massive total of Quote
Guest Paul Collins Posted October 20, 2003 Report Posted October 20, 2003 I popped in to my local Ford dealer on Saturday, to pick up some D pillar trim clips (I hate them) and order some speaker grills. After a quick phone call, they told me that the blue grill is no longer available! Paul Quote
Guest mjb Posted October 20, 2003 Report Posted October 20, 2003 Yes, I had the choice of black or grey only. Fortunatley mine are grey! Quote
Guest Paul L Posted October 21, 2003 Report Posted October 21, 2003 Blue speaker grilles no longer available? Bugger! Quote
Guest Paul Collins Posted October 22, 2003 Report Posted October 22, 2003 Of course, I haven't tried my local VW dealer yet! Paul Quote
