RichieRich Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 I want to get some roof bars for my Galaxy (with roof rails fitted), but don't want to spend an awful lot. I have found some Paddy Hopkirk bars (LM503GX) that are supposed to fit any Ford with roof rails for Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 Genuine Ford ones from dealer are only a little bit more - about Quote

_dg Posted October 3, 2003 Report Posted October 3, 2003 You see a number of cars travelling around with slightly bent roof bars, and these are normally the cheaper ones. Ford and Thule are roughly the same price, and worth it. BTW, if you get the Ford ones, don't try and tighten the securing (allen key) bolts too much - the head snaps off very easily and alternative bolts are not easy to find. Edit: Don't forget to budget for some small step ladders!! . Also, don't forget to take them with you for unloading!!!LOL Quote
Guest Spark Posted October 3, 2003 Report Posted October 3, 2003 I know this is the last place you would think of buying but;Ikea sell roof bars to help you get they oversized boxes home, fair quaility for occational use range fron Quote
Guest Gav1968 Posted October 9, 2003 Report Posted October 9, 2003 I bought a set of the Ford Roof Bars which are pretty good and come on and off easily. I added the Ford Canoe carrier feet to them, and its a solid set up. However........ Don't leave them on any longer than you need too, as it takes the height of the car to just the right height to hit the barrier on car park entrances. Wish I could blame the wife, but it was my fault. Roof bars will give you the option to fit a big old roof box, which will make the 6/7 up with luggage idea a goer. Quote
Guest Paul Collins Posted October 9, 2003 Report Posted October 9, 2003 These have just apeared on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...item=2436742442 If it wasn't for the collection address, I would be bidding myself Paul ;) Quote
firefly Posted October 10, 2003 Report Posted October 10, 2003 Hello Richie Rich- I've got PH roof bars on our galaxy, but i'm sure they cost just over thirty pounds (didn't upgrade to locking devices though). I had a friend make up a metal frame (1m x 1.5m) covered in 6mm marine ply which I then bolted on to the bars. Once sprayed with plasticoat, and stained wood it look a treat! I had four large suitcases laying flat, and pushchair on top during our summer hols which left plenty of room inside for 6 people. Quote
