Guest JonathanK Posted October 1, 2003 Report Posted October 1, 2003 Last post asked for recs for service. If I went to a VW or Ford dealer with my Seat, how do you think that would affect the warranty. It's a 115PD so the same engine in all 3. Surely Seat couldn't get out of any warranty claims inside the 3 years if it's been serviced to the same schedule? What thoughts? JK Quote
Guest JIMSTDI Posted October 1, 2003 Report Posted October 1, 2003 from what fords told myself,if i take my ford to anyone else apart from fordsthen the 3year warranty is non and void so for the sake of taking it to vw or fords, stick with seatits not worth the hassel if trying to get a warranty claim sorted... once the warranty is up then go where u likeour warranty is up next october on our focus and i wont be taking it back to fords aall the best james Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted October 1, 2003 Report Posted October 1, 2003 If you are inside the 3-year warranty stick to the proper dealers (Ford dealers for a Galaxy, Seat for Alhambra and VW for Sharan). What you will save will be greatly outweighed if you have a problem - and the savings will be marginal especially when considered in the light of spending about Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted October 1, 2003 Report Posted October 1, 2003 The rules changed somewhat today. You can now take your car to an approved non-dealer garage and maintain your Warranty. This also therefore applies to other franchises. So you are both wrong-ish. This is still rather vague, though. Check out the news, if you can find anything about it..... And I wouldn't listen to Ford dealers about anything....guaranteed Bullmud. Quote
iainkirk Posted October 1, 2003 Report Posted October 1, 2003 "Approved non-dealer garage"....but approved by who?? Quote
Guest JIMSTDI Posted October 1, 2003 Report Posted October 1, 2003 where did you hear this saif thats the case its a totaly different ball game now mind u think id much rather stay with the dealership untill the warranty is up they have always been very fair(smc) all the best james Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted October 1, 2003 Report Posted October 1, 2003 The rules change today because of the end of the so-called "block exemption" legislation ... but the existing warranties have paperwork that will require the car to be serviced by authorised dealers, so I still say that for the savings involved on a purchase price of about Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted October 1, 2003 Report Posted October 1, 2003 No; since my primary source was from some SMMT guy this morning on Radio 4, I am struggling to back the dialogue (which was quite encouraging and somewhat detailed) up from t'Internet news sources! But I did speak to BCH on another topic and they've shifted some of their service dealers around and blacked others! As of today. So, could be a big deal, but as you say, a little early for heroics just yet. Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted October 1, 2003 Report Posted October 1, 2003 Yes, and although the rules change today, as with most EC legislation, there is a time period allowed for compliance. So apparently nothing can be done to insist that the car manufacturers/dealers change their way of operating for about another year. Quote
Guest JIMSTDI Posted October 1, 2003 Report Posted October 1, 2003 but how many people would go else where to get there car service myself id much rather let the people in the know do the job ive not had anyreal probs with smc and dont see the point in going else where it does make u wonder, when im at smc fords u c a lot of cars in for a service and lot of which are vw`s,rover, bmws, and even mercs so somebody somewhere is doing a good job no cars from italy  with a name like fiat panda u would want one :D james Quote
Guest ANDY FITZGERALD Posted October 5, 2003 Report Posted October 5, 2003  I HAD HEARD ABOUT THESE CHANGES FROM A GUY IN THE TRADE, HOWEVER HE CONFIRMED THE TIMESCALE WAS NEXT YEAR AS IVOR SUGGESTS... Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted October 5, 2003 Report Posted October 5, 2003 I have posted a separate thread on this topic: "Block exemption".Ivor. Quote
