Vanbursta Posted July 11, 2006 Report Posted July 11, 2006 Can somebody please tell me (or have a look in their manual and let me know) how to program the Remote key to lock/unlock my 97 Galaxy please. I have tried the instructions for turning the key in the drivers door 3 times, but the system won't go into programming mode, I asked my local Ford garage while I was picking up the new pollen filter kit and they told me it has to be done via their computer, can someone please confirm if this is correct, or if I can in fact do it myself. The system is the earlier infra red version NOT the later ultra sonic, the alarm is working OK and the LED flashes as it should, please help if you can as it's driving me mental!! PS Fitted a new alarm / central locking control module today, got it brand new from a dalr for Quote
Guest Dave S 194 Posted July 12, 2006 Report Posted July 12, 2006 1. Close all the vehicle doors. 2. Note:Make sure the door lock cylinder is held in the unlock position for more than 0.5 seconds. Insert the key into the driver door lock cylinder and turn the key from the rest position to the unlock position three times within five seconds. 3. The door lock light emitting diodes (LED)s will illuminate for 15 seconds during the remote transmitter programming mode, allowing the remote transmitter to be programmed. 4. Remove the key from the driver door lock cylinder and aim the remote transmitter at the interior rear view mirror. 5. Press and hold the LOCK button on the remote transmitter. 6. While holding the LOCK button down, press the UNLOCK button three times on the remote transmitter. 7. Release both buttons simultaneously. 8. Make sure the door lock LEDs flash five times, confirming that the remote transmitter has been programmed. 9. After a remote transmitter has been successfully programmed, the GEM will reset the programming mode, allowing a further 15 seconds to program the next remote transmitter. 10. To program additional remote transmitters, repeat steps 4 to 8. (from the faq) Quote
Cathy Posted July 16, 2006 Report Posted July 16, 2006 Yeh - I have the same problem as Vanbursta - can't reset the remote locking. I have tried everything on Nikp V's post and still doesn't work - any further ideas what might be wrong? Quote
sanjsanj Posted July 16, 2006 Report Posted July 16, 2006 heres a Q mr science: if glass absorbs infra-red, how do u expect the infra-red sensors to respond to the signal given by the key?? Quote
Vanbursta Posted July 18, 2006 Author Report Posted July 18, 2006 OK here's the definative answer, don't bother with the instructions to turn the key in the drivers door with the infra red remote - it doesn't work, this system was NOT designed that way!! I have now managed to get the correct instructions for the infra red version, which are:- Hold the remote control in the direction of the vehicle, press the UNLOCKING button 3 times within 5 seconds, the control light on the drivers door will then illuminate (the system is in programming mode), within this period press and hold the unlocking button, then press the locking button 3 times, if the control light in the drivers door flashes then the system accepted the remote, you can program all further remotes within 20 seconds. It didn't work for me to start with, then I discovered that despite the fact that the LED came on, on the remote, it wasn't putting any signal out, after I replaced the remote, it worked perfectly. BTW Infra red light has a spectrum band, and whilst it's true that some bands (or frequencies) are stopped by glass, not all of them are and that's why the remote beam (actually it's pulses) are able to penetrate the glass. keith9534 Posted August 25, 2006 Report Posted August 25, 2006 Sorry to dig up an old thread.......how can you tell what remote locking system a car has? I know my car has it as the black box under the seat shows remote locking on it Has anyone got any information? Either that or a picture showing the differences on the keys? Or even what words to look for? Quote
NikpV Posted August 25, 2006 Report Posted August 25, 2006 if you have the IrD remote you will have two little domes one near the rear view mirror and one in the rear of the car (above tailgate IIRC) Quote
keith9534 Posted August 25, 2006 Report Posted August 25, 2006 Thanks.....mine has those....i thought they were interior sensors but makes sense now! Quote
Vanbursta Posted August 25, 2006 Author Report Posted August 25, 2006 If they are fitted the interior sensors are Ultra sonic and are located on high up on the B/C pillar (where the top of the front seat seatbelts are bolted on), there is a pictue of them on here somewhere but I am not sure where. Hi Can anyone confirm if the doors need to be open/shut and or locked/unlocked when programming? I can`t get a remote to work trying this method. I have confirmed the Infra red is working (can be seen by a camera phone OK) Do you need to do anything else to make it work? If I try the key sequence the remote "blink" 5 times after the sequence....but I can`t get the car LED to trun red. Anyone? Thanks Quote
jamesm1979 Posted April 21, 2015 Report Posted April 21, 2015 Mine has all this but keys not working also there is no LED on the drivers door?! Any ideas why its not there Quote
