Guest Aussie Phil Posted July 11, 2006 Report Posted July 11, 2006 Like many others I'm starting to see "Gremlins" develop in the ol' gal (the car, not the wife) I have just developed the situation whereby the heater/aircon blower fan under the dashboard does not work on speed 1 or 2. Its fine on 3 and 4. Added to that, when the aircon button on/off is pushed, it lights up (and the aircon works) only when the fan is on 1 or 2. (fan not working) When the fan speed is increased to 3 or 4, (fan working) the aircon light goes out and the aircon stops working. The aircon was serviced by Ford main dealer 5K miles ago. It seems I can have no fan + aircon OR fan + no aircon. Has anyone come across this sequence of events before and can point me in the right direction.? Weird. Phil PS. Thanks also go to Mumof4 and others. Recently my front wipers suddenly seized solid just before a long trip, followed the post (and the saga) of your repair. Sorted! Quote

Bigjeeze Posted July 11, 2006 Report Posted July 11, 2006 The Fan problem sounds like a resistor pack - I had that go on my Mk1 - Seatkid advised on how to fix - there should be a post or two on that somewhere. Quote

Thanks BJ, Did a search on "Resistor Pack" and it certainly sounds about right. At least I now have a starting point. Will let the forum know how I get on. Quote

Update: All fixed. It was the resistor pack. Just a 5 min job to replace - no problems. For the record: My 2001 Mk2 1.9 TDI Zetec resistor pack has the "green" plug - manual aircon.Part No. 1104837 Quote
