Masked Marauder Posted July 8, 2006 Report Posted July 8, 2006 It just increases the fueling by making the engine think it is running cooler than it is. A proper re-map is Quote
raymac Posted July 9, 2006 Report Posted July 9, 2006 Fitted one of those to my passat 110bhp which are renowned for a terrible flat spot , it cured the flat spot and increased the bhp and fuel economy but after 4mths it jacked up and the car kept dieing whilst driving it's all about choice but having read the ecu remap reports that is the way i'll go in the fiture. Quote

Davetheref Posted August 13, 2006 Report Posted August 13, 2006 YepI had one fitted for a year and have only taken it off after reading all the blurb on here about it damaging engines etc in the long term. I do miss it though as it really did make a difference in the power and the mpg readings as well. It did also make a lot more smoke and I really noticed it until the engine warmed up.Still not decided about the mpg though as since I've taken it off, it seems to me a tank of diesel lasts longer than with it on even though the reding showed better mpg's. I am very, very tempted to re-fit it but am still not 100% sure it isn't doing any long term damage. Quote
Guest smikka Posted August 26, 2006 Report Posted August 26, 2006 Hi all, just burnt through 2 tanks of fuel, one with the box fitted, one without. Both lasted the same distance (well 10 miles more without the box) even though the computer tells me I'm doing at leat 10% better mileage with the box fitted. :) Conclusion - the box does mess with the computer mpg readout - maybe because the ECU thinks the fuel is cold and therefore more dense (?). Anyhow, even though I like the extra torque, I'm not happy with the smoke :) so it's staying off.Cheerssmikka :P Quote
seatkid Posted August 26, 2006 Report Posted August 26, 2006 Don't forget that visible smoke means a lot more soot is going into the oil, reducing its service life considerably. Quote
