oioisavaloy Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 Has anyone had any experience with converting to GAS as a vehicle fuel? With the congestion charge seemly working within the London area, my view is that it won Quote
Guest hughie Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 :o Had my 2.3 zetec converted to lpg 2 weeks ago, there is no difference in performance. The mpg has gone down from 26 mpg on petrol to 21 mpg on gas. Though it is early days yet, a round trip to the N.E.C of 338 motorway miles cost Quote
oioisavaloy Posted February 24, 2003 Author Report Posted February 24, 2003 Thanks H, It's nice to know that it can be done.Quite bad on the miles mind you, but price difference quite refreshing. Regards SAV :o Quote
Guest harry Posted February 26, 2003 Report Posted February 26, 2003 'inform swansea of the change of fuel , that way when you can register for the congestion charge and pay nothing to drive in the city, and to really pee off ken only run on petrol when you do lol' The Powershift register says there is no CC discount for any Galaxys. Also I have a 2001 2.3 Zetec Auto and therefore DO NOT qualify for a 30% discount to convert as only the manuals are given the discount. Quote
pj_andrew Posted February 26, 2003 Report Posted February 26, 2003 So does the 30% grant from powershift just mean that all the fitters put up the prices by 30% ? - Is Quote
Guest hughie Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 As fredt says wrap up warm when re fuelling, and only fill up at BP stations in emergencies as they are pain in the back side. The nozzels are very difficult to attach, or is it me. And on a safety note be careful when removing the nozzel in damp weather as you can burn your hand on the nozzel, very painful. Quote
Guest n19erc Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 Hi, I've a 2001 model 2.8 V6 galaxy which I had converted to LPG about 8 months ago. I've probably done about 10,000 miles since installation without any problems, including 2000 miles around France a week after the kit was fitted. I have a web site www.nigelchristie.co.uk which details further info on converting a Galaxy to run on gas. Hope this helps. All I will say is that I wished I'd converted to gas when I first thought about it rather than toying with the idea for a year. Regards Nigel C. www.nigelchristie.co.uk Quote
oioisavaloy Posted March 2, 2003 Author Report Posted March 2, 2003 Nigel, I have just been to your site. very good. I also have a V6 on a 1999, I might just do this conversion. Regards SAV  Quote
Guest n19erc Posted March 2, 2003 Report Posted March 2, 2003 Thanks oioisavaloy, good to get some positive feedback rather than those at work taking the p*ss ! Quote
pj_andrew Posted March 3, 2003 Report Posted March 3, 2003 There is an article in the Telegraph about bad gas conversions. You have to register to the site so here is the article in full: Dangerous LPG conversions could rise(Filed: 01/03/2003) The Trading Standards Institute (TSI) is concerned that the central London congestion charge might lead some drivers to employ dangerous and unapproved liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) conversions in order to avoid payment. Motorists with approved alternative fuel cars that meet the requirements set out by the Energy Saving Trust's PowerShift Register are exempt from the Quote
Guest Martyn Posted March 10, 2003 Report Posted March 10, 2003 Interesting reading on Gas conversion chaps ! Do any of you know whether my 96 2.0GLS Auto will take a conversion ? ;) Quote
ridway Posted January 6, 2006 Report Posted January 6, 2006 Converted 4 weeks ago by AutoTech of Ripley in Derbyshire. My options were to sell and buy a derv or convert. It just brings a smile to my face when I pay for 62 litres of fuel and it costs me under Quote
greg_68 Posted January 6, 2006 Report Posted January 6, 2006 Rich, I am interested in converting my V6 to LPG, and Derbyshire would be not too far to travel to have it done. Do you mind me asking how much yours cost? Quote
ridway Posted January 6, 2006 Report Posted January 6, 2006 Greg. I would imagine that you would need to budget for around Quote
