Masked Marauder Posted July 6, 2006 Report Posted July 6, 2006 Hi Onslow, and welcome. Not only is an Alhambra like a Galaxy, it is also like a Sharan, the only difference being that the Galaxy PETROL engined cars had Ford engines. The only real difference with the Diesels are the badges and trim. Your problem is almost defiantly related to the aux belt tensioner, either the pulley or the spring. My Alhambra has over 120K on it and the spring is fine, so the primary culprit is the roller. It is a bit cramped in the engine bay, so the picture above is the component parts. You will need to take the belt off and check for free play in the roller. If there is none then check the belt for wear, does it look stretched? Are there deep cracks in the ribs? If the belt looks reasonably new then suspect the tensioner spring. Quote

onslow Posted July 7, 2006 Author Report Posted July 7, 2006 If i turn air con on it stops?then wen its turned off it starts again after about 10 seconds?it has recently had new condenser/compresser,and air con needs regasing can it be something to do with this? Quote
Masked Marauder Posted July 7, 2006 Report Posted July 7, 2006 The extra load of the compressor is causing the belt to pull tighter. Quote
onslow Posted July 7, 2006 Author Report Posted July 7, 2006 Took belt of this morning no play in the roller,so bought new belt gonna fit that later see if that works,if not gonna be spring but will post hgere later to let you no. Quote
onslow Posted July 7, 2006 Author Report Posted July 7, 2006 Put new belt on seems to be ok,fingers crossed, roller still vibrates a bit but would this do it as the engine is diesel? Quote
Masked Marauder Posted July 8, 2006 Report Posted July 8, 2006 The belt will always vibrate a little, as long as it is quiet and smooth you don't need to worry. Quote
