Air Con On P Plate Galaxy

hi all can any1 tell me if when we switch on a/c should engine revs drop etc,light comes on fan switch to say a/c on but nothing happens no drop in revs and no cool air blown?.

dous it need a regass or is ther a problem elswhere,havin problems with garage that sold it to us 6 months ago said they would fin no they ummin and aring about.

Any help would be helpfull

p.s we in chesterfield and it is a p plate 2.3 galaxy

I have exactly same problem with wee wifeys car - v reg 1.9 tdi - mobile air-con mans coming on monday i`ll let u know how I get on

Exactly the same symptons as our 1997 Galaxy.

 

It went into th garage this week and this what was found.

 

It seems the low pressure side is leaking from the main alluminium pipe at the front.

The one that does the rounds via the headlight etc.

 

It has a 4mm hole in it somewhere.

 

So until that is repaired we still can't be sure there'll be other problems cropping up :wacko:

Looking at

Mobile aircon man came, vacuumed out old refrigerant, added correct quantities of new refrigerant & oil, also added a dye so he could look for leaks. No leak found under UV lights. Tested ok ran at 7.5 degrees.

Cost was 77 quid - I`m well pleased - now works better than new.

However, as their was virtually no gas in system to begin with, the man thinks a leak will show up at some point in the future. As were off to France soon he`s coming back in 2 weeks to check it over again, before we go.

Apparently ford modified the pipe fixings late in the mk 1 run and pipes don`t corrode as much.

He also commented that of all the cars he works on Galaxys no worse than other makes/models.
