Guest Andy Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 AT work i have to use MINTEX pads and LUCUS discs.MINTEX pads are a very hard compound and contain brass, copper ground nut shells etc,and tend to squeel after a period of time.I have yet to have a problem with LUCUS discs,i have fitted hundreds fron escorts to Mercedes A class with no problems.I prefere LUCUS pads not too hard and not too soft,At present my GALAXY has AP LOCKHEED PADS AND DISCS and after two years are still going strong.MMM BREMBO fitted to the Excellent ALFA ROMEO RANGE,PORSCHE,AND A HIGH PERCENTAGE OF RALLY CARS ME THINKS,FERODO ANOTHER NICE BRAKE PAD I FIT THOSE AS WELL WITH NO COMEBACK.    Quote

Guest Andy Posted October 3, 2003 Report Posted October 3, 2003 I think that some of these "performance" pads should go with either cross drilled or slotted discs to work properly.A chap at bikes of brighton (in brighton) called ricky won the first tuned s1 rs turbo with green tiger stripes from lax power magazine quite an orsam beast it was,Saturday the 13th september was the national speed trials at madeira drive here in brighton alot of very nice quick cars,rs 200,ferrari f40,mk 2 escort cossie,2.9 twin turbo sierra 4x4,5.7ltr cobra, ford puma 580bhp quarter of a mile in 9.83 seconds what a day.Bloody noisy though.    Quote

Guest Paul L Posted October 4, 2003 Report Posted October 4, 2003 Right, now to wind up this thread! New discs & pads fitted and guess what, no judder or oscillation - great, as long as it lasts! Measured the thing to death. Run-out on the discs was 0.005" (both sides) and on the hubs less than a 0.001" (both sides). Leads me to think that cleanliness of the hub/disc interface might have been more of a contributory factor than I'd first thought. This time, before fitting the new discs, everything was cleaned meticulously, with the hubs being wire brushing until you could see your face in them. I hope this set lasts a bit longer than those that have gone before. This time though, if there's even the slightest hint of judder of oscillation this side of twelve months, they'll be coming off and going back to Ford's for an FOC exchange. Still have to but new pads though - don't set me off on that one! Thanks again to everyone for their input. Regards Paul Quote
