This is my first post after registering, so first of all hello!

Anyway, I've been looking for a new car and was focusing on the 2.3 Ghia model without much success. I've now found a 52 plate 2.3 Zetec but as I haven't looked at these before I was hoping someone could tell me what you get in a Zetec to make sure it is not a lower model.

Am I right in presuming it will describe it as a Zetec in the log book as sometimes this isn't the case? Maybe the VIN plate has a code to tell you the model?

Finally, where is the catalytic converter placed on the exhaust? The exhaust is getting very rusty just after the center silencer so it will need replacing at some point.

Thanks in advance.

The cat is mounted immediately after the flexible hose from the engine. It has triangular flanges on each end. Then next back is the center silencer, a pipe, and then the rear silencer.

Log book won't normally specify the trim. You should find Alloy wheels instead of wheel trims and parking radar compared to the lower spec LX. Only the Ghia has a badge denoting the trim.

Simple things to look out for: Zetec has front fog lights and front electric windows. Base model (LX) does not have front fog lights or alloys as standard. Ghia has electric windows all round and front fog lamps.

Standard alloys at that age of car: Zetec 7-spoke; Ghia 5-spoke

Turns out my suspicions were true.

It's advertised as a Zetec but its actually an LX. It was when comparing the different adverts I noticed it seemed to be at a lower level. It has front e/w, standard steel rims with trims, no fogs. Air conditioning was superb though!

I'm still interested in the car but in my book a lower trim spec is worth less money so I've asked them to adjust the figures. If they don't, I'll keep looking.

Thanks for the info.

The log book ALWAYS states the TRUE model of car that is registered.

The only time I have come across a log book that didn't give the true exact model was when my Mrs bought a "dealer group" special edition Ford Fiesta .. It said Pop Plus on he log book but the dealer had added a sun roof and spoiler and some nice alloys and badged the full fleet as "Summer Breeze".

My current car log book states the exact model and so does my wifes.

As per this Ghia X thread this isn't strictly true ..... :27:

I've just used the link to the RAC Website and ALL my previous cars are listed as exact make, model and spec.

Even my current car is listed as a C180 ClassicSE Auto Estate .. Exactly as stated on my log book. My previous car is listed as a Galaxy Ghia tddi .. exactly as log book.

Well I can only speak as I find, and my Honda Civic 1.5 VTEC simply says "Honda Civic" and the Galaxy "Ford Galaxy". The Honda was UK new and Galaxy imported from Belgium. Previous Imports I have owned have been as vague as "Audi rigid 2-axle". When I went to buy the tax on another Civic I'd just bought I filled in the application form with "Honda Civic 1.5LSI Coupe" as it said on the boot lid only to have this crossed out by the women in post office, because the V5 only said "Honda Civic". Nearly all my cars have been registered through the Leeds LVLO so maybe there are regional differences in how the V5 is filled out?
