Guest BagPuss Posted July 2, 2006 Report Posted July 2, 2006 (edited) Well, I knew when I bought the Galaxy that the rubber boot needed replacing on the off side rear. So off to Frauds for a couple of spares, paid about Edited October 7, 2007 by NikpV Quote
El Dingo Posted July 2, 2006 Report Posted July 2, 2006 Wha! That's nasty. (At least it wasn't raining in Suffolk this afternoon. I can guarantee that something will go wrong with one of our cars when it's raining, and cold, or both.) Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted July 3, 2006 Report Posted July 3, 2006 Time well spent, by the looks of it. Must have given you a bit of a scare when you unearther the problems! Wonder how many previous attempts had been made to cobble the wires together? Quote
Masked Marauder Posted July 3, 2006 Report Posted July 3, 2006 They are not cut marks BTW, they are simply cracks in the poor quality insulation, mine was like that and that was why it had shorted out. Quote

That was my thought as well. The wiring used in cars also seems to use copper which is not of the same quality as that used for normal flexible cable. When I used to run a mobile disco I used 7 core caravan cable for my lighting leads whereas all the mains leads and speaker cables were made from normal 2 or 3 core flex. In 20 years I NEVER had a mains lead or speaker cable fail but had numerous occasions where one or more of the cores inside a lighting cable would break INSIDE its insulation. The poorer grade copper probably explains why the cables running through the doors and tailgate suffer such a hight failure rate due to constant flexing whereas the rest of the cars wiring never moves. Guest BagPuss Posted July 3, 2006 Report Posted July 3, 2006 Yeah, I know what you mean't.I didn't mean knife marks etc. I think it didn't help that the rubber boot had come out which made the wires chaff the hole as well. So it all didn't help, but fixed now :( Quote
lazyb5 Posted July 3, 2006 Report Posted July 3, 2006 Blimey that could have been nasty :) bet your glad you did it now :( Quote
