Ivor_E_Tower Posted July 1, 2006 Report Posted July 1, 2006 Had that problem in my last job - took 4 years to find new job (so I stuck at the old job); depends on your skills and the local job market. Not many jobs in manufacturing QA in Surrey/Hants area, hence the long wait (but it was worth it..). Took a pay cut but am mentally much better off in my new role Quote
morticiaskeeper Posted July 2, 2006 Report Posted July 2, 2006 I've just finally escaped my job. I quit last year, intending to do some agency work, then it looked like SWMBO would lose her job at the same time, so I had to stay. Two weeks ago, another driver quit, because his run was crap, he was always finishing late. I knew I would be moved onto that run, so I printed up some A5 flyers offering a driver. Before I got the chance to post the flyers around the estates, I heard a rumour that a driver was leaving a local company. A flyer went through the letterbox on Sunday, they phoned at five to eight on Monday, Interview at two, offered the job at ten past :P went into work on Tuesday and was given a run that was impossible to do. The afternoon run started at four thirty, instead of one thirty, theat was when I knew I had made the right choice so I handed my notice in the next day, just after the boss held a meeting to tell us how wonderful his new plans were. The new plans might work, but it's probably just the same old crap. Only problem, switching from weekly to monthly pay, although the bank have helped with that as well. Quote
familyman Posted July 2, 2006 Report Posted July 2, 2006 :P watch out for the change from weekly to monthly pay ,it's great getting a big wedge at the end of the month-then you get to week 3 and find you're hanging on until next week because it's all gone! it can take some getting use to :) Quote
mumof4 Posted July 2, 2006 Report Posted July 2, 2006 Hubbys always been on monthly pay..and we still hanging on ab a thread by week 3!! :) :P Quote
katman Posted July 2, 2006 Report Posted July 2, 2006 Hubbys always been on monthly pay..and we still hanging on ab a thread by week 3!! :) :P The bank once asked me "How much money I heft at the end of the month" I replied it was more a case of "How much MONTH I had left at the end of the MONEY" :) :P Quote
Guest Rich Posted July 2, 2006 Report Posted July 2, 2006 Yes, I'm quite resigned these days to waving briefly at my money as it rockets straight through my bank on the 1st of the month... :P Seems to disappear faster and faster each month. I'd love to do something else, but at 41 I'm too old for a career change. Plus my gargantuan mortgage means I can't take a salary cut. And what I do is very specialised, so it's difficult for me to up sticks and leave... there's only 3 places I can go in the south-west, and I've worked in 2 of them :) Quote
Guest 3.5bullet Posted July 2, 2006 Report Posted July 2, 2006 i once had five jobs in one day! way back when i was young and was a self employed electrical engineer and only had myself and my car to keep :) i used to walk off jobs for the smallest reasons? didnt like the foreman, the site canteen was crap! the job was crap! i didnt like the people i worked with! if i thought that this job was going to be a bad one and my name was going on the paper work? then i walked, several times i had a few jobs lined up and would just turn up look at the site and move onto to the next one till i found one i liked :) when i finally settled down and went on the books i was still getting calls three years later seeing if i was available for work? actually i got one last week from a company i worked for 10 years ago! so i cant have been that bad  good luck with you new career Steve, remember to keep your books in order, save some cash for the tax man :( get the right liability insurance, pay your NI stamp (do we still have them?) and you'll be ok :) and remember the customer is always right <_< so keep your mouth shut and be polite right up to the point till the cheques cleared then you can slap them  Quote
