hi to any auto electrician or bod,

my sons aprilia rs125 keeps blowing the 15amp fuse oh so regular. this started when i changed the clutch cabel which needed the battery to be removed and the cabel being fed down to the clutch. i guess that a wire must be broken or cut or ?

so how do i find the culprit. i have looked but can not see anything wrong, is there a method to track it down how do they do this in a garage?

if i put in a 20amp fuse say if thats all i have will it then blow up some part?

DO NOT CHANGE THE FUSE TO 20 AMP !!!!

The fuse is blowing because something is causing more than 15 amps to flow.

This could be because something is drawing a bit too much eg 18 amps which would cause it to fail after a while or because a cable is damaged or trapped and shorting out causing a massive current to flow which then blows the fuse instantly.

Changing the fuse to a higher value could easily result in a fire that will destroy the car as there is a danger that the higher fuse will allow the wiring to overheat and catch fire rather than blowing the fuse.

What does the fuse feed ?

If it is a lighting circuit, have more lights been added which may be overloading it slightly causing it to blow after a period of time.

If it is for audio, has a big amplifier been fitted.

Does it just blow at random even if whatever that circuit feeds is not in use ?

Prime suspect has to be some damage in the area that you were working.

Pssst, Katman, it is an Aprilla motorbike.

Oh well, "We all make mistakes", said the Dalek climbing off the dustbin :(

Comment about the fuse rating is still valid though :D

It was the vision of a massive boot-style install with a huge amp on the back of a scooter that made me chuckle though!

And is is very unwise to up rate a fuse because it was persistently blowing. That sounds like a chaffed wire or something btw.....

oh my this was good, made me laugh about it all.

thanks for the comments though.

i'll have to realy look hard for the short then. it is on the starter circut as this is what blows it instantly.
