Guest Chris Twigg Posted June 28, 2006 Report Posted June 28, 2006 Hello folks.I have a speed related clicking sound coming from (I think) the f/n/s area on the wifes 52 plate 1.3 KA. (18,000mls) Comes in at about 12mph and sounds like a load of stones in the tyre. Disappears if you move the steering wheel either way. Jacked the old gal up and spun the wheels by hand and the only sound I can hear is a click off the near side inner drive shaft CV, but as the angle is severe due to being jacked up and the strut at full length, it's a difficult call as to if it's that or not. Any ideas?
Guest Chris Twigg Posted July 12, 2006 Report Posted July 12, 2006 OK. So it may not be the n/s/f. In fact I can't work out where the hell it's coming from, either which side or which end, nor can any passengers. It's not always there, seems more likely to be heard when it's a hot day (not just because the window is open) but usually shows itself when you brake gently but still disappears when you make even the slightest steering adjustment. Anybody have a clue before I go completely insane? ps. Them power steering racks are pigs to do on the KA don't you think!
Guest neil_wiles Posted July 12, 2006 Report Posted July 12, 2006 Sounds like the anti lock brake ring onthe CV joint is loose or maybe just the cv joint, the inboard one from the off side wheel that is inside the gearbox support housing as this will make the sound appear to be everywhere.
