Guest iknownothing Posted June 26, 2006 Report Posted June 26, 2006 Hi, our car won't start, the engine turns over but it doesn't fire. I have read a lot about the dreaded relay 30 but my next door neighbour thinks its the fuel pump. My question is - how do I tell if its the relay (cheap repair) or the fuel pump (expensive repair)The car is a Petrol Galaxy GLX 1996. Any advice will be much appreciated but please talk in simple terms,Thanks, Rick. Quote
tedwards Posted June 26, 2006 Report Posted June 26, 2006 I had the same problem, changed relay30 over a year ago & no repeat of the problem. Its easy to change on a Mk1 & only around a tenner IIRC. Sometimes removing the relay and giving it a sharp tap against something free's it up & the engine will fire. Definitely the option to choose first. Regards, Tony Quote

Guest iknownothing Posted June 27, 2006 Report Posted June 27, 2006 Next door neighbour has had another look and found it was relay 167.He got me a second hand one for a fiver to check & its fine now.I was that chuffed that it wasnt the pump that I went and bought him a crate of lager. He didnt want to take it but finally agreed and then proceeded to weld & fill a hole in the backof the car to make him feel better. Cheers to all for advice. Rick. Quote
