Hi All, Can someone help please, i have a 2001 ford galaxy (y reg), i have fitted a towbar & threaded the elctrics wire through, this is now where i have the problem, does anyone know the wire colours for the lights that i need to cut into & can they all be accessed from where the jack is stored, i am quite competent & not worried about electrics., Hope someone can help.

Many thanks.

Tony.

If it is a MK2 then there won't be.

Do you know what the colours are for wiring, i have the colours for the pin/towbar elctrics but not the galaxy colours, & can they be found in 1 side or do i have to wire it to both sides?.

Not off the top of my head, I have wiring diagrams but am off to work now, I will add it to my list of things to do!

Hey - if you find out the answer to this question, could you please let me know, as I'm currently doing the same job!

I've managed to wire in both indicator sides, the tail and stop lights, but that's where I hit standstill!

I can't seem to find the reversing or fog light wire. Sure - I can see the colours of when they're in the boot lid, but where they go from here, I don't know.

I took the towbar cable into the offside jack storage area, so hopefully there in there somewhere.

When I look at where the bulbs plug in, the cables that I think I'm looking for are black/blue and grey/white, but as I say, I can't see where they go to from here.

Anyone able to help?

Graham,

You said you have managed to wire most of it, are all the wires in the side where the jack is kept?, i can find the nearside ones.

I did this job last year when I wired my Sharan up for a lighting board. I had to grab wires from both side compartments, from my notes & TIS disk (and my 2001 Sharan complied with it...)

Fog - Grey/White

Reversing lamp - Black/Blue

LH Tail - Grey/White

RH Tail - Grey/Red

LH Stop - Black/White

RH Stop - Black/Red

LH Turn - Black/White

RH Turn - Black/Green

Hope this is of some help.

I've now finished the job, and as you said, I had to grab wires from both sides of the car. The sidelights, indicators and stop lights all came from the obvious place at the back of the blub connector.

The boot scuff plate was a bitch to get up, but surprisingly enough, I managed to get it up without breaking any of the clips that hold it in place.

To get wires from one side of the car to ther other, I threaded them through the box section of chassis that is underneath the scuff plate.

Now, the tricky bit was to find the fog and reversing light. After speaking to someone else who uses this forum, iit appears you have to remove the offside rear seat belt, then the cover that underneath (be carful not to break the six clips that hold this cover in place).

Under here, you should find all the wires required.

I can't remember exactly what they were, but from memory, I think they were

grey/white - fog

black/blue - reverse

(or could be the other way round!)

Hope this helps.

Just put a towbaron my 2005 2.3 Zetec.

Can you wire the electrics straight into the wiring loom ?

Cannot remebr if it has any electric gismos that need to be by passed.

Hi camper dont know about the 2.3 as graham and i both have diesels but if its got a bulb failure module you should use a 7 way bypass relay it makes it much easier. I think graham tried initially to wire it up to the cd :16: (sorry Graham) but he fitted a 7 way relay no problem i think he did the fog and reverse as well

Now im getting confused, (not hard believe me), are all the wires availabel on one side or do i have to take from both sides, also a 7 way bypass, what is this where do i get one & what do i wire it to?, or should i just cut into the original wires, i have a 1.9 diesel, may be a few fuses blown soon. Cheers, Tony.

My interpretation of the diagrams showing towbar electrics was to wire directly to the loom but a general concensous is to use a relay. My bulb failure still works with it wired directly.

It is also worth pointing out that the dashboard trailor indicator (has to be enabled using VAG-COM) uses the additonal current drawn from the indicators to sense when it should come on.

:16: Sorry I hadn't updated my sig since the board was updated and the vehicle info is no longer shown.

Mine is Sharan Mk2 (2001) 1.9TDI.

Do you have to have the registered version of Vag-com to make the adjustments?

Camper

Yes, I believe you do, if I remember correctly the unregistered version will not let you write 'control codes' to modules - which is what you have to do to turn the trailer indicator on.

Has anyone tried to activate the built in dashboard trailer indicators using VAG COM on a MKII 2.3 Zetec?

Mine does not seam to have a bulb failure device. Took loads of bulbs out and no dash lights came on.

When fitted the bulb failure warning comes on every time you turn on the ignition - extinguishing when you press the brake pedal.
