muffking Posted June 22, 2006 Report Posted June 22, 2006 Hi Guys. Sorry to bother you with my problems again. This time I need to know if it's possible to delete a key from memory in my Mk2 as the previous owner claims to have lost the spare key after promising to post it on to me and I really don't like the idea of a spare key floating about out there especially as he has my home address. With my Vectra the dealer is able to delete all of the key fobs for the alarm/central locking and also the immobiliser chip in the keys themselves, so I was wondering if it's the same for the Galaxy. I've read about reprogramming keys, but bear in mind that I only have the 1 key and would also like to stop the other key from starting my car (just covering my *rse). Again, car is a '52 plate 2.3 Ghia. Quote
Guest 3.5bullet Posted June 22, 2006 Report Posted June 22, 2006 as far as i'm aware you need a minimum of two keys programmed into the system for it to allow the car to start! it looks like a trip to the dealers or a good auto locks smith is on the cards for you in order to get a new key cut and programmed into the system, even then i still think you need the car connecting up to the dealers computer to actually delete a key? seatkid Posted June 22, 2006 Report Posted June 22, 2006 IIRC, the C/L unit stores up to 8 keycodes. Everytime you reprogram it for a new key, the oldest keycode is lost. Whether reprogramming it with the same key 8 times will work I can't guarantee, but I imagine it would. However you still have the problem of the "undesired" key can still open the car via the "mechanical" route. The immobiliser works via a different means. You will need dealer equipment to reprogram the PATS to remove codes. Quote
Masked Marauder Posted June 22, 2006 Report Posted June 22, 2006 The dealer can set the PATS to 0 keys and that wipes them all, they then set it to 1 and insert a key, that key is then programed, set it to 2 and the next key is inserted etc. It is going to cost a bob or two though. Quote

Sounds like a viable solution, cheers guys. Quote
gregers Posted June 24, 2006 Report Posted June 24, 2006 either that or buy a new lock set off of ebay? Quote
Masked Marauder Posted June 24, 2006 Report Posted June 24, 2006 That would give him more keys, but he would still have to have them programed at the dealers or by a specialist auto locksmith. Quote
gregers Posted June 26, 2006 Report Posted June 26, 2006 yes it would give him more keys and new locks, taking it to the dealers to deprogram 1 key wont stop them getting into it though will it?but it would ensure that he had them all and not one floating about making him worry. Quote
Masked Marauder Posted June 26, 2006 Report Posted June 26, 2006 Aye, and it is not going to cost much more for the stealer to program 3 keys than just one. Quote
gregers Posted June 26, 2006 Report Posted June 26, 2006 that was my thinking mm iirc i had to have a new key cut,but had to have a new red key cut first then a spare, lucky for me the dealer paid but it was Quote
