Hi Guys.

Sorry to bother you with my problems again.

This time I need to know if it's possible to delete a key from memory in my Mk2 as the previous owner claims to have lost the spare key after promising to post it on to me and I really don't like the idea of a spare key floating about out there especially as he has my home address.

With my Vectra the dealer is able to delete all of the key fobs for the alarm/central locking and also the immobiliser chip in the keys themselves, so I was wondering if it's the same for the Galaxy.

I've read about reprogramming keys, but bear in mind that I only have the 1 key and would also like to stop the other key from starting my car (just covering my *rse).

Again, car is a '52 plate 2.3 Ghia.

as far as i'm aware you need a minimum of two keys programmed into the system for it to allow the car to start! it looks like a trip to the dealers or a good auto locks smith is on the cards for you in order to get a new key cut and programmed into the system, even then i still think you need the car connecting up to the dealers computer to actually delete a key?

IIRC, the C/L unit stores up to 8 keycodes. Everytime you reprogram it for a new key, the oldest keycode is lost. Whether reprogramming it with the same key 8 times will work I can't guarantee, but I imagine it would.

However you still have the problem of the "undesired" key can still open the car via the "mechanical" route.

The immobiliser works via a different means. You will need dealer equipment to reprogram the PATS to remove codes.

The dealer can set the PATS to 0 keys and that wipes them all, they then set it to 1 and insert a key, that key is then programed, set it to 2 and the next key is inserted etc.

It is going to cost a bob or two though.

Sounds like a viable solution, cheers guys.

either that or buy a new lock set off of ebay?

That would give him more keys, but he would still have to have them programed at the dealers or by a specialist auto locksmith.

yes it would give him more keys and new locks, taking it to the dealers to deprogram 1 key wont stop them getting into it though will it?but it would ensure that he had them all and not one floating about making him worry.
