Dieselalhambra Posted June 22, 2006 Report Posted June 22, 2006 1.9tdi 1998 . Original cat sheared where it fits int exhaust. Replacement has been fitted with a steel ring not a paper gasket at downpipe end. There is now a gap between flanges of approx 6mm. Before flanges were butted. Is this ok has anyone else had a replacement cat fitted in this way. Or will it vibrate loose or cause corrosion of down pipe flange. Also they have put sealant on front joint between cat and downpipe. Quote
Bigjeeze Posted June 22, 2006 Report Posted June 22, 2006 My MK1 did that about 2 years ago - and I thought bugger paying for a new cat so I went and got some exhaust bits from the back of the local exhaust centre - cut the necessary bits off and two clamps later all is well. It's passed two MOT's so far. Can't help with the fitting bit. Quote
Guest 3.5bullet Posted June 22, 2006 Report Posted June 22, 2006 Also they have put sealant on front joint between cat and downpipe. thats a big no no! there should be no sealant used on the pipe work on the upside of the cat! if any of this breaks off and travels through to the cat it can damage it! and shorten it's life! mustie Posted June 22, 2006 Report Posted June 22, 2006 agree with 3.5 bullet no sealant before the cat Quote
