smedzz Posted June 20, 2006 Report Posted June 20, 2006 aircon doesn,t work at all had a new aircon pipe fitted, compressor and something else or so the garage tells me.ps they fixed it once it lasted about a week now they tell me there,s damp in the system!!!!! Quote
Ogben Schmutzel Posted June 20, 2006 Report Posted June 20, 2006 If there is damp in the system after they have done all that work then I suggest you ask how it got there and why is it still there, given that the regas procedure should dry the refrigerant! Sounds like they are making it up as they go along - not unusual I'm afraid!! If it lasts about a week then you almost certainly have a slow leak somewhere! Like me  Regards.Oggy. Quote

Ogben Schmutzel Posted June 21, 2006 Report Posted June 21, 2006 See what happens in a week!!! All the best.Oggy. Quote
sepulchrave Posted June 21, 2006 Report Posted June 21, 2006 Hmmm, I understand your scepticism Oggy, but in fact the garage may feel that a new Receiver/Dryer is required, hence the reference to damp. This failure is not uncommon and in fact GSF sell the part quite cheaply. Bear in mind that 'Mechanics' these days are in reality just fitters who change boxes until the fault goes away. Main dealers are no different. Quote
Ogben Schmutzel Posted June 21, 2006 Report Posted June 21, 2006 Fair comment. Silly question maybe but is the Receiver/Dryer a separate component to the condenser? Cheers.Oggy. Quote
raymac Posted June 21, 2006 Report Posted June 21, 2006 Oggy on the galaxy (so seat and vw should be the same) the drier is fitted to the condenser but does come as separate part, when i had new condenser last week it came complete with drier fitted and it is recommended that it should be changed every 2 yrs when you have aircon serviced/regassed  Quote
