Thicko Posted June 19, 2006 Report Posted June 19, 2006 The front tyres of my Galaxy have about 2-3mm tread left on them so I'll have to do something soonish. I was wondering if it was a good idea to get a garage to swap the tyre from the steel spare onto an alloy wheel and just buy one tyre. I asked at my usual tyre fitters and he said he wouldn't do it in case he damaged the tyre getting it off, but implied that other places would probably do it. I'm only asking because it seems a pity to leave a perfectly good tyre to perish on a steel spare. Quote
Steve S. Posted June 19, 2006 Report Posted June 19, 2006 Hi , I would think it unlikely that damage would occur , after all there is a vast second hand tyre market out there depending on (hopefully ) undamaged tyres and also punctured tyres have to come off the rim for repair. It sounds like your bloke can't be arsed! In the end it's your choice. Can you get a new matching tyre to the spare?Probably not worth it , at least you know you've got a dependable spare assuming your carrier isn't rusted up! Regards Steve S. Quote
Guest Cepheus Posted June 19, 2006 Report Posted June 19, 2006 Try www.mytyres.co.uk for discount tyres online. Can usually get 2 tyres there for the price of one at a "KwikFit" type place Quote
