Guest CR1 Posted June 19, 2006 Report Posted June 19, 2006 Hi guysJust got this car and its a great runner, no problems starting, but an anoying problem. Example, coming off a motorway/A road, as I slow down, the engine cuts out. Starts easily enough, either by the key or letting road wheels turn the engine, and runs as normal, but obviously when it happens it can be a bit dangerous as the powersteering is lost. I've also noticed it at normal road speeds so maybe its not connected to speed, but it happens more often at higher speeds. If when exiting M way, I'm, not stopping, eg round about, the car runs fine, its only when I'm stopping (or reducingh speed significantly) rather than slowing that it happens. The engine always cuts out whilst the car is moving, before I come to a stop. As I've just got the car I'm totally at a loss about the models foibles. Its done about 60,000 and other than this is a great runner.
Guest CR1 Posted June 26, 2006 Report Posted June 26, 2006 any ideas at all, anyone? its got me stumped but I wouldnt reall know the first place to look anyway. could it be Idle control valve?
johnb80 Posted June 26, 2006 Report Posted June 26, 2006 Clean the throttle body and idle speed control valve with some carb cleaner and with a bit of luck you'll owe me a drink :16: Regards - JB
bretwalda007 Posted June 26, 2006 Report Posted June 26, 2006 I had a similar problem last year. Took it to a garage, they did a diagnostic check and found a faulty speed sensor was to blame. Had it replaced. Been fine since.
