Guest ANDY FITZGERALD Posted September 24, 2003 Report Posted September 24, 2003  Ive got the 15" Ford Alloy Wheels but fancy the idea of upgrading to the more recent Ford 16" alloys...See Picture... besides looks, what difference will this make to the drive handling etc. or any other. I know there is more rubber width in contact with road.anybody gone from 15" to 16" Alloys ?? I would really love to get the vehicle with the alloys but cant stretch the budget ...never mind keep on dreaming... Also anybody know if there is a high level brake light available from Ford. Guest ANDY FITZGERALD Posted September 25, 2003 Report Posted September 25, 2003  Gremlin Free I Hope...Hoping Mine Will Be OK After New Blower Relay is fitted, its causing me a little to much worry at the moment...I`m with FORD after a long spell with mundane but reliable Countryman Diesels...I knew about Galaxy Gremlins, but there was no real alternative, and the diesels in my price range were in such short supply...Will be extending the warranty for a bit more peace of mind I think...Hoping my recent/current problems will ease off, Its been well maintained and I dont think its suffering with high mile blues (123,000) Keeping The Faith... Ivor_E_Tower Posted September 29, 2003 Report Posted September 29, 2003 One "problem" with facelifted Ghia alloy 16" wheels is that the centre cover is plastic not metal, and clips into place. To remove it to check or undo wheelnuts, you effectively have to damage it with the pry bar when you lever them out :-((This tends to scratch the plastic too -a ll4 wheel centres on my Gal were damaged like this when I bought it second-hand.Not yet enquired how much new ones are....and I would like to get the wheels refurbished to get rid of the blemishes caused by first owner. Still waiting for wicked wheels to call me back........ Quote
Guest JIMSTDI Posted September 29, 2003 Report Posted September 29, 2003 i think your right there ivor them centre caps are a bit daft trying to get them offwe had this poblem when putting the kit on it still makes u wonder if there is a way of getting them off without marking the caps james Quote
markos69 Posted September 29, 2003 Report Posted September 29, 2003 I noticed the same thing on my wheel, they have slight damage on them. When I was taking it to get new set of tyres I took them off myself and found a small screwdriver does the trick if you put it through one of the holes in the cap, seemed to come of easier to. Quote

Guest JIMSTDI Posted September 29, 2003 Report Posted September 29, 2003 if so page 189 in the handbook Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 yes, facelifted. Wll look at page 189 of handbook tonight. I also carry a reasonable tool kit in the car with me at almost all times but could not find something suitable to pull the wheel centres off, other than a screwdriver. And all 4 wheel centres on mine were already scracthed and slightly deformed from previous owner/servicing garage's attempts to remove them. Quote
Guest JIMSTDI Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 hi ivor glad u said about the garage trying to take them caps offmines in for 1st service soon,so will be making sure they use right tool thanks for that james Quote
Guest warnerj Posted May 17, 2004 Report Posted May 17, 2004 Hi, I just had my 18 month old Galaxy Ghia serviced and had the wheels balanced at the same time. The car has had the same tyres on since new and the same garage has serviced it every time. I have never had to take the wheels off myself or take it to another garage or tyre centre. I looked at the wheels when I picked it up and damage has been done to the centre caps and the wheel areas surrounding them. I've just shown the guys at the garage and they said that the only way to remove the caps was to prize them out and because there was no recess that damage was inevitable. I can't believe this! It's not only the caps that's the problem like I say it's the wheels as well. The 'prizing out' has caused the laquer on the wheels to chip and from experience I know that water will get in there and cause the wheels to go manky. The garage said they would contact Ford to see what could be done and they'll let me know. So searching this forum I found this thread and it seems from the other replys that it is a design fault. Surely Ford can't expect me to live with the fact that the only way to remove the wheels is to damage them?? As I am under warranty how far do you think I should pursue this (that is if the garage don't offer to restore them)? And even if the garage do restore them, what happens when I need to get the tyres changed? Any comments appreciated. Thanks, Jonathan Quote
