Sorry for the stupid Q, but I can't find the manual at present.

My 2001 Galaxy has just been in for the usual, "whys the climate control not working" issue, during which time the garage said they removed the front os headlamp to check for leaks (long story, don't ask).

When I drove it away with leak found and fixed(tiny bit of grit in one of the refill values), the front indicator no longer works(and rear flashes twice as fast).

Before I go accusing them of breaking a wire etc, I just want to check the bulb, but how?

I can just about see the back of the bulb assembly behind, the headlamp, but how the hell do I get the bulb out?

Looks like I have to unbolt the wing at the moment

there is a flap in the wheel arch to access both the sidelight and indicator bulb (top IIRC). Its usually caked with crud. Its made of plastic and if it wont slide I usually push it firmly in the center- it bends and comes out of the slides at the edge. Pull it out completely clean it up and replace by inserting one side first - start at the top get the top on the other side in and slide up - it should now slide back down again. Now you can change the bulbs - bit tight - I used some long needle nosed pliers in the end (sidelight)

You will have fun with this - my wife now appreciates my dexterity and ability in the dark! I have the modern car design to thank for this. One of my other cars is a stag and whilst it is always needing something done it is so easy to get to stuff - modern cars are a complete nightmare; why can't they just add a few inches to make some room. Guess it is like the M25, whatever you add will be filled!!

It's a lot easier with the wheel/tyre removed. If not - turn the wheel to full lock the opposite way to the bulb that has failed - eg if nearside bulb has failed, apply full offside lock. Thios gives you more room to get to the sliding cover in the wheelarch.

A tip form personal experience (I ruined a jacket doing this) - your arm will get covered in dirt from the wheel/tyre, so cover your arm up with, for instance, a large dustbin liner bag that you open at both ends...and you need thin flexible fingers that can also apply a lot of pressure at their tips to undo the bulb holders.

Good luck

...or you could remove the whole lamp cluster from the car which makes it dead easy to change the bulb...

A tip for getting the sidelight bulb holder out that may apply to the indicator as well is to use a flat file (20mm x 5mm) as a large screwdriver as this fits nicely in the slot/handle of the back of the bulb holder and allows you to untwist (as in a domestic bayonet bulb) the holder to remove it. If the file is a cosy fit in the holder you can remove and reinsert the holder without putting your hand in the hole.

Erm...... I am stuck....

My Gal failed on the o/s indicator lamp, it is a 2000 V reg, and I looked at the dam thing and after reading this, a five minute job has just turned into a couple of hours. Is there no easier way to remove the lamp??

It also failed on the rear reg bulb... Any help on how to remove this...???
