Guest ANDY FITZGERALD Posted September 23, 2003 Report Posted September 23, 2003  anybody know if early 97 Gals had remote key central locking as standard or as an option, I have only torch key, and trying to discover what my replacement key options are... I do have global closing... according to what Ive read G.C. is an option...Im hoping I have the receiver but do not have any Idea what was fitted back then... Next stop Ford, With my V.I.N Number.. Its GLX Tdi - Jan 97 - P PlateHas Global Closure / Sunroof / Alloys / C.C. Any Thoughts ?? Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted September 23, 2003 Report Posted September 23, 2003 Seem to remember this sort of problem being asked before. Cannot remember solution, sorry. Perhaps receiver is fitted to all cars and you may need just a remote key to sort it - else get an after-market alarm fited, which has the remote locking function.Global closing only works with key in the driver's door lock, NOT from remote key (on facelifted models anyway).Maybe Ford can tell you what system is fitted ? Guest JIMSTDI Posted September 23, 2003 Report Posted September 23, 2003 your right there ivor with having to put the key in the door to use total global closing shame u cant just press the button on the fob on my foci ghia just hold the close button for 2 sec and get global closing,so why didnt fords do the same on the facelift galaxy james Quote
Guest JIMSTDI Posted September 23, 2003 Report Posted September 23, 2003 hi fredt i was talking more total ie locks and windows ,but from just pressing a button on the key fob, like on the focus ghia the only done it on the 2.0l not the 1.6 or other versions just wondered why fords did do it the galaxy all the best james Quote
Guest sgould Posted September 23, 2003 Report Posted September 23, 2003 August 97 Ghia has remote key (only one) and one standard key. Global open / close with key. Remote also does global open OR close, not both. Can't remember which and it's too late to go out and find out!! The book says remote global both ways. Thought it was a fault, but couldn't be bothered to get it fixed. Quote
Guest JIMSTDI Posted September 23, 2003 Report Posted September 23, 2003 on the face lift galaxy,it will open all the windows and close them, wont open the rear quater window ..but will shut it if its open why did fords make it so only one rear quater opens if uve got dual air-con cheers james Quote

_dg Posted September 24, 2003 Report Posted September 24, 2003 I had this problem, and asked the question here a few months ago. I was told by a ford rep that the car would have to go on to one of their diagnostic units to find out exactly if the car had a remote unit installed. They could not tell just by vin or reg number. And location of cabling and the unit may differ. Mine is a 2.3 zetec - 2000 old shape. Apparently some may have had it as the new spec came on line and newer parts may have been fitted to the last of the old spec cars. I never found the time though, but will investigate further. I thought I'd loccated an IR reciever though, but one turned out to be the heated screen connector, and the other was the rear side window ariel connector. DOH! dg Quote
ALARM MAN Posted September 24, 2003 Report Posted September 24, 2003 Cheaper to go to good auto electrician and get after market unit fitted.Or just pay ford a fortune for there upgrade Total closure is standard on all galaxys because it is a VW sharan in Ford badges Thats why no other ford offers total closure! If you want info on alarms remote locking etc then i can offer my experience in this matter Cheers Ian Quote
Guest JIMSTDI Posted September 24, 2003 Report Posted September 24, 2003 hi ian my ford focus 2.0i ghia come with total closing alarmstandard on the 2.0i ghia james  Quote
Guest ANDY FITZGERALD Posted September 24, 2003 Report Posted September 24, 2003  Thanks for the advice Guys, I would suspect that the diagnostic machine would pick up a remote c/locking receiver, certainly remote central locking on this year in the FORD range is not unusual, my mate has this on a mondeo - P Plate. I take the point about the GALAXY being a non ford platform though, I guess Volkswagon may hold some of the secrets. P.S. I found a better FORD Dealer up the road... Andy Quote
Guest ANDY FITZGERALD Posted September 24, 2003 Report Posted September 24, 2003  Guess what?? My blower has packed up again, spoke to the air-con guy, turns out its a relay, he was only able to repair it last week, But now he informs me that he has ordered the relay from VOLKWAGON and will fit it, as soon as he gets delivery.I hope this will cure the blower problem, as I would really like to get away from the garages and get some enjoyable driving out of the car. I think this is a bad week, as I managed to put a slight dent in the bottom of the tailgate... guess where...outside the air-con garage...can you believe that!!minor ...but wanna get it sorted... you know the pride and joy thing!! Kinda feel like... why do these things happen like they do...know what I mean Still dont let em grind ya down !! Help... 1 Step forward... a step backward...whats it all about guys ?? Andy Quote
ALARM MAN Posted September 25, 2003 Report Posted September 25, 2003 Hi Jim you sure its a standard fit alarm on the focusor have they added on like i do a window closure module ? Can you do it with the Key ? not just the remote ? If not then its an aftermarket thing Cheers Bud Quote
Guest JIMSTDI Posted September 25, 2003 Report Posted September 25, 2003 hi ian yes it was standard but only on the 2,0i focus at the time was the top spec foci as the 170st wasnt even out at that time yes u could do total clousre from the remote button and putting the key in the door i thought it was vey good idea on the focus at the time ps.will email u as to the alarm all the best james  Quote
