raymac Posted July 11, 2006 Report Posted July 11, 2006 Sorry for late reply.Firstly the guy my mate used is based around the london area i think, I'm in the Slough area. So this may be of benefit to others this side of the country. Will post contact details as soon as i get them. Also according to my mate the guy reckons he can vary the degree of tune-up so you don't damage your engine. But another thing of interest is that after a remap tune, You can install one of those tuning boxes as well. And in the guys own words he reckoned he made his galaxy 90 bhp so fast it would leave porsches behind !!!. Not that i would want to go so mad. Not to sure about the tuning box bit, i thought the whole idea of remap was so it couldn't be detected if so wished  Quote

Therefore leaving nothing to find, But with a remap you would have to sweat it out and hope it IS undetectable!!! I think the only way to choose between them is on what they alter. A tuning box only increases the amount of fuel used in combustion, Whereas a remap alters a whole host of things to make your engine more efficient and therefore more powerfull. Im even quite sure they can increase the turbo boost. Personally even though i have a tuning box, i think i'll still have the remap done and keep the box just in case i want even more oomph!!! But then my starting point is only 90bhp. Quote

mumof4 Posted July 12, 2006 Report Posted July 12, 2006 I for one would never alter my engine in any way to make it faster/more powerful. If i had wanted that then i guess i would have bought a different car...and with kids in the back why would you want to make it more powerful???in an accident ,then more power=probably death instead of just injury.I think my car goes fast enough without tampering. And as for whipping the tuning box out of the car in case of an accident...can see it now......kids screaming.....but you get out and open bonnet to get the wee box out!! Quote

Guest 3.5bullet Posted July 12, 2006 Report Posted July 12, 2006 it is not currently an offence under any law that applies throughout England and Wales, but if i read the act correctly you could get done for wilful exposure! Summary Offences Bill 2004 Wilful exposureClause 9 creates a clear differentiation between situations where a personwilfully exposes himself or herself for the purpose of urination andattempts to find a place out of public view for that purpose, as opposed tothose persons who expose themselves for shock value or for sexualgratification. Consequently, where a person, without reasonable excuse, urinates in public, a maximum penalty of 2 penalty units will apply. It isintended that this simpliciter portion of the offence will apply where aperson intends to urinate out of public view but through circumstances atthe time is viewed by a member of the public. A circumstance ofaggravation carrying a maximum penalty of 40 penalty units or 1 yearimprisonment will apply where a person commits the offence so as tooffend or embarrass another person. Instances of this nature would includea person who urinates in the full view of members of the public, e.g.against a building in the Queen Street Mall, or a person who exposeshimself or herself to a member of the public for the purposes of shockingthat member of the public or for the purposes of sexual gratification. mumof4 Posted July 12, 2006 Report Posted July 12, 2006 Hmm..i see that the main thing you pick up on in my post is the wee box bit!!!!sort of puts everything into perspective... worded a little bit wrong there i think..but i hope you get my point. Quote

Started as ecu remap thread now it's about pi$$ing up the wall on a friday night  yes we do but nice to have a bit of a laugh  Quote
mumof4 Posted July 12, 2006 Report Posted July 12, 2006 Yes it is nice to have a laugh, but i wouldnt put my kids lives at risk doing it.Ok, most of us are careful drivers..but what if something happens that you cant avoid??what will you do then???what would you choose first.....to remove the evidence of tampering with your engine....or help the passengers in your car??? Thats the point i was trying to get across......only my opinion....same as if you need a faster, more powerful car..then you chose the wrong car to drive.the Galaxy car is a family car..not a racing machine...(though i must confess that yess i have exceeded the speed limit WHEN I AM ON MY OWN) this is only my opinion of course, I firmly believe that it is not worth the risk...should not tamper with the engines. Guest 3.5bullet Posted July 12, 2006 Report Posted July 12, 2006 though i must confess that yess i have exceeded the speed limit WHEN I AM ON MY OWN) i suppose with so many posts  it must be hard to keep track of what you've posted before..... I was having to deal with 2 kids fighting in the car and one crying as she had fallen over. http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.ph...wtopic=8009&hl= Quote
mumof4 Posted July 12, 2006 Report Posted July 12, 2006 Yes...i know what i post....How long had i been driving then?????and i guess i cant have been speeding as i never got a ticket. How many of you have been distracted by a child in the car?????that as you turn around your feet move????you cant tell me you havent. I learnt my lesson,as we all do in time. But i have not tampered with my car and have no intention of doing so.........yes..i admitted i speed....but i only do it wen i am on my own and not in built up areas and wen i say speed it is not at 100mph!!, i will not put my kids at risk.it is not worth it...and if i recall correctly, i was doing about 35 in that post you quoted..... And am i wrong in thinking that from what i have read in this thread, that ecu remapping and those "wee boxes" are illegall????? All i was doing was voicing my own opinion..that was all. Quote

I wouldn't put anyones lives at risk, As i have stated my galaxy is only 90bhp at present. And by having it remapped i would only expect to get to 115bhp the same as yours!! Also i have a large caravan to tow, And from reading others posts regarding towing capabilities, 115bhp does not tow as good as 130bhp so that being the case 130bhp is what i would probably need. Not everyone who owns a fast car drives fast. And am i wrong in thinking that from what i have read in this thread, that ecu remapping and those "wee boxes" are illegall????? As far as i am aware these gadgets and gizmo's are not illegal. But you should declare them to your insurance companies, Who will put up your premium. Even putting alloy wheels on to a car should be declared!! Quote

gazza007 Posted July 12, 2006 Report Posted July 12, 2006 Getting back on topic. Does the re-map effect your emission levels which will be checked at MOT time!! Quote
Guest 3.5bullet Posted July 12, 2006 Report Posted July 12, 2006 if it's done badly then yes! due to the clouds of excessive black smoke kicked out the back end! a mates BMW was remapped by superchips, while in for a service the mechanic at the dealers noticed it smoked a bit when he booted it and ran a full diagnostic check to see why? when the car was returned to the owner it didnt have as much umph! as when it was dropped off :D so much for unnoticable remaps! jkspoff Posted July 16, 2006 Report Posted July 16, 2006 Well, here goes, booked it in for remapping on Tuesday, I know quite a few people now who've had theirs done, and they can't find anything bad to say about it, getting it done for Quote

MrT Posted July 17, 2006 Report Posted July 17, 2006 Maybe I am a cynic, but I fail to see how the performance of a vehicle with a remapped engine, even if it is to 165bhp, is so much faster than the model with the standard 204bhp engine. Laws of physics and all that. Quote
